Found a loose rubber hose?
I was working on something in the engine bay today, and I accidentally dropped an allen wrench, and it fell in. It landed in that big plastic covering on the bottom. I cleaned out a lot of junk in there to find it. An old broken battery tie down rod, chunks of the rotting Radiator Support Bar, and then the wrench. But I also came across this:
What is this for? Should I be concerned? The engine runs ok, and there's no CEL. Here's where it came from:

Maybe the AT breather hose?

Nope. Looked at mine and the breather hose is thinner and longer. Can't see anything from the top that looks like that.

it could just be a cover/protective hose for another smaller hose. Some hoses have that in certain locations where its close to the engine. Looks like you will have a look around on this one. Likely you will figure out what it goes to when you are doing something else to the car.

Sometime this month, I'm going to bring this thing to a body shop to have a new one installed. I'll just ask them to poke around and see if they can find the origins of this tube. Thanks for the input eveyone

I agree with cabernet... That little piece looks exactly like the protective sleeve that goes on the "U" portion at the very top of the AT breather hose... of course, someone would've had to intentionally take it off...
OP, before you go paying someone to look around, why don't you look under another Max's hood to see if you can spot the differences?
