Seat Belt question?

Since I got this car, I've noticed that the front seat belts don't really retract like other cars I've been in. The other day, one of the careless as#%oles in my carpool didn't realize this either and slammed the door shut with the metal clip still hanging out in the door frame. It caused a huge scratch in the door frame and the belt clip is all bent.

So my question is: are the front belts in our cars supposed to retract? The driver side does it very slowly, but the passenger side needs to be reeled back manually. Do I need new seatbelts? Also, does anyone know a good vendor for touchup paint?

If the buckle is bent and it retracts slowly, i'd say it's time for new seatbelts.

I've done some more research and it looks like Nissan offers a lifetime warrenty on all it's vehicles pre-2003. Would a slow retraction problem be grounds for a warrenty repair?

I really hope that guy didn't void the warrenty by destroying that clip

Good question. Wouldn't hurt to find out.

Would this only be to Original owners? I am the third owner of my 2000 Maxima and my driver side doesn't retract by itself sometimes. Where can I get replacement information on the seatbelts?
