Thinking of Selling my 01 AE. What's it worth?

I hope this is the right place to post this. After many years of companionship, I am thinking of parting with my 2001 Majestic Blue AE.

I was wondering if you guys could help me get some idea of what i might be worth.

It is a 2001 Majestic Blue AE w/ 158,000 Miles. The only mods are:

-2003 HID's
-350Z Wheels
-Tokico Illumina/H&R

The interior is pretty immaculate. I just put new floor mats in it. It's black seats on darkish grey carpet. 5-Spd. It has a few nicks and scratches (its a 11 year old car) but overall, it's in great shape, and the paint is in really nice shape.

What do you guys think?

Depends on a whole lot of factors. The maxima market where i live is flooded and nobody but an enthusiast will even notice the differences of the AE. Grab a local paper and Auto Trader and look it up

Agreed...

OP, Looking up the value of your car in your area is the best thing to do. It could be worth 7 grand or it could be worth 4 or 5.

You can probably remove the AE body kit from it and put it up for sale. People will fight each other to the death for one (on this forum) so you could get probably a grand for that alone, maybe 900 or 800.

When you say look it up, do you mean like on NADA or KBB? I have seen posts before that state the KBB/NADA price guides dont really take into account the rarity of the AE's.

He means look it up locally. It can vary greatly based on supply/demand. For instance where I live ( east coast of Canada ) no one seems to know the value of maximas and so they sell relatively cheap. This is going to suck when I go to sell one though

Banks use NADA so if someone wants to get a loan, you will have to be at or below that price.

kbb or nada doesn't mean much if your local market has it selling thousands below book value. I always find at least three comparables and price it accordingly. You might have better luck selling a manual tranny car on this forum than locally as they tend to be a harder sell.

For any car older than 10 years, the local market dictates more than anything else, just like everyone said.

This being said, you can post it on fleabay motors with the reserve you think is fair, and if people like it, they'll bid it up. That's probably the best way to get rid of a semi-collectible.

More importantly, what are you moving on to? I have been looking for a car with a better set of compromises (performance, economy, handling, fun factor, ease of repair, and how much stuff/people fit for the money) for the last 11 years and have still come up empty handed.
