Factory Bose Stereo Issue

Because its GARBAGE!!! I can't wait to get rid of that unit!! I hate it, skips and sometimes the time on the CD just stands still. When I get my aftermarket upgrade I'm gonna make a really nice video of me SMASHING it with a baseball bat......might even take a shotgun to it!!!

Doesn't turn off when you press the power button (button in the volume control... I think)?
If so, not worth to fix these... you are better off buying a used deck from someone parting out there car.
My very first mod on the 5.5 was removing that crap...
You would be doing yourself a favor by removing that and adding an aftermarket deck - double din preferebly. The speakers sound so much better with an aftermarket deck.

Search for it, there is a write-up I used to do mine, not sure where though.
If you want I will take a pic when I get home as my stock sub is sitting in my garage now.

All you have to do for that is open the back of the sub, put a piece of (IIRC) 1/4 inch paper wrapped in electrical tape behind one of the pieces to hold it down to the board better, close it back up, and boom, fixed! I did it when I first got the car.

That would be great if I could have a pic. I already took it completely apart once but I couldn't seem to find any wiring issues. It's quite a harness for such a tiny sub and amp eh?

Yea I no. I don't know if my 03 will be the same as yours but it was very simple. IIRC it was just a couple bolts and it came right out. Then just put the paper right on top of the "relay" I think its called. Close it back up and put it back in. I am pretty sure you can solder it on better also, but that was to complicated for me at the time.
I will take a pic later tonight after I get out of work and I will give you a how-to as well. You'll laugh when you see how easy it is.

Yeah taking the sub out was super easy. 4 bolts on the rear deck, then 4 screws to take the plastic cover off the sub assembly, then 4 more little screws to get at the "relay" I guess you call it? It says 100W or something on it, so I just figured it was a tiny **** amp. So the connection issue is where the wire harness attaches to that relay then?? That long, skinny clip that has like 15 or 20 connections on it?

Thanks for the input everyone. I have considering an aftermarket one. I personally think the factory stereo may not be the greatest, but it sounds fine. I'm not into glorified systems and stuff like that. Just for the record, I have seen high dollar aftermarket radios with the same type of problems. I highly doubt they are made any better. I don't really consider this radio to be garbage at all.
Our Maxima is a family car and is in very nice condition but is bone stock. We don't really want an aftermarket radio for a few reasons. We like the radio controls on the steering wheel. We also like the stock look. Also, I like the idea that not many people will want to break into the car to steal the radio if its the factory one.
Oh, to the question about having to turn it off, I always turn off everything including the AC etc before turning the car off. It may not be necessary, but its something I have always done for 15 almost 20 years of driving.
We had to replace the battery, and now the radio is inoperative. I'm guessing the power button is bad. I just want to make sure that is what it is. Has anyone had this problem?

Sorry I forgot to take pics over the weekend here ya go:
1. Remove sub from deck to make things easier, you do not have to though.
2. Remove 3 screws circled in red to seperate the sub into two pieces as it is shown below.
3. Remove 4 screws circled in blue to remove metal box from the black housing.
4. Cut small piece of paper and fold it to a square, then wrap it in electrical tape until it is the thickness as shown below.
5. Place the piece you made onto the gray relay box the way it is below.
6. Close metal box. Should be very snug and should have to put a little pressure to get it to close, as the piece you put in there is now holding the relay tightly onto the circuit board.
Now just put everything back together and plug it back in.
As I said before, it may seem a little ghetto but it got the job done for me. Sub never cutout again. You can also look up another how-to that shows how to re-solder it.

No problem man. Like I said it is very easy. I couldn't believe that was all it took, lol it was my first repair.

Update: Took my sub apart last night and followed the pics and write-up and on my 25 mile commute this morning my sub worked flawlessly the whole time! Never cut out once! Big thanks to Guarj for his help on this! Would have never known otherwise considering the relay box seems tight on the board. Thanks very much!

So I know it has been a while since this was posted, but I wanted to thank you Guarj for the tute! Got my sub working in less than 15 min. Didn't have to take the whole deal out though, just unscrewed the three screws and unplugged it. Worked like a charm. Just got the car yesterday and it has been neglected, and the stereo is one of the first issues to fix! So thanks!
