02 6Spd Gone

Hey all. I just wanted to thank everyone on the ORG for all the help I got. Donating to become a perm member years ago was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The amount of money saved and information acquired about cars (and obviously Maximas) has been crazy.

I passed my 95 auto down to my little brother and bought a 98 5SPD.

Some crazy lady rear ended me and flipped me into a ditch.

I bought the 2002 6SPD.

Little brother totaled 95 so he bought 2001 5 SPD.

Yesterday, some other psycho Atlanta driver turned left in front of me (and was cited by police) and totaled the 02 6 SPD.

Lesson to the world: Maximas don't survive my family.

I am moving to either a 335i coupe, G37 coupe, Mustang GT, or 240SX. I really don't know what I want. It just has to be manual transmission and be fast. GT is comparable. With a turbo, it will be a blast. 335i is a DREAM (test drove today), but is expensive. G37 makes me hesitant because I am sick and tired of the VQ drama. I was killing 1.5 quarts of oil per 1000 miles on the 02. 240SX is too much drama, rebuilding, parts, and cars with 5 different colors of paint.

Thanks again to all. Car recommendations are welcome!

Having driven in and around Atlanta I feel your pain. I have no idea why people are such A-holes driving up there. They drive fast and careless like they actually know how to drive but they have no idea. The Vq issues are long gone in the G37 coupe. G35 maybe but the G37 should be fine. 335i's had issues with the High Pressure fuel pump and trust me BMW's eat tires as a snack. I had a 96 Zenki that I turbo'ed the KA and it was quick and fun but had no cargo space for my girls. If you asked for my opinion I would go with a G37 Coupe or Sedan. Get the newest you can afford and enjoy it. BTW either make sure you get full coverage or move out of Atlanta all together.

HPFP isn't really an issue since it is warrantied to 120K / 10 years now. I am single, 25 years old, and have no kids. Cargo space is the least of my concerns. G37 has that "I just want to be a BMW" feel to it. I am going to test drive it this weekend. I test drove a 135i today too. OMG! That thing is an f-ing go-cart on 4 wheels. Uncomfortable, but certainly is a driving MACHINE.

I am pretty rough on cars. I am trying to pay down my mortgage aggressively. I am also a hobby (not professional) pilot. Plane rental = credit card doom. Convincing myself to get into a 20K car is hard when I want to get my pilot instrument rating. Thanks for response about 240. I have always wanted to drive one with KA-T, 325+ HP, and sticky tires. Something about sliding sideways and a blow off valve makes me want to drool.

EDIT:

I have lived in Atlanta forever. I live in Buckhead and work in Midtown now. Not leaving anytime soon for sure. They are psychos here for sure. Had full coverage on the MAX

Sorry to hear about your Max. Have you considered a 350Z HR?

My buddy is still having issue's with his 2007 335. After getting the car "fixed" 3 times he is about to lemon law it. I'd say stick with anything late build date 09. Dad just retired from(and moved to Dawsonville Ga which is why I know about the Atl drivers ) working for BMW after 30 years so I am a true hard core Bimmer fan. Good luck and post pics of your new ride what ever it is!

It needs to be a practical daily driver. R33 RHD isn't exactly in that category.

I am thinking about staying cheap. 03-04 G35 Coupe 6SPD. 80K+ miles. Should keep me under 15K. 10K cheaper than 335.

That's what I'm hunting for right now... I am going to test drive an 04 G35 6spd with 55k miles this week end. The guy is asking $14k for it... With 80k+ miles, don't pay more than $12k

how do you place a 240 in the same options as a bimmer or G37?

$2000 in a 240SX, $1000 in fixing up, $2000-$5000 in a turbo setup = faster than all other options.
