try a different power source such as the cigarette lighter first. If that doesn't work, chances are that the unit is faulty. I installed a faulty one before for a friend who bought one off eBay.

how crucial and accurate is the 1cm spacing?

Is more/less space acceptable? I merely approximated when I tapped power and ground

I wasn't 100% accurate on the spacing and my unit works just fine...

the ebay user assured me that it worked.
he switched to an AEM tuner for his turbo application.
Everything's getting redone tomorrow morning... hopefully it comes on

So I didn't untape my solder points, I merely checked the harness connection for voltage output..
I read 11.92 volts with the car off (ignition on), yet the tuner won't turn on.
If it has power, will the unit power on regardless of the other sensors I've plugged into?
I posted a picture of the specific pins that I tapped into

Yes, it should come on regardless of what sensors are connected.

I think I payed $170 for mine about 4 years ago. But Mine isn't a neo. Around $150 for a v/safc is generally agood price and about $200 for the neo is usually good.

sounds like a trashed unit. my guess would of been improper settings before starting, but with it not powering on.....trash

Bring the unit over to the battery and press the power and ground wires on the appropriate terminals. If it lights up, then you made a bad connection to the harness, but if it still does not light up then you have a bad unit.

That's where I'm at. I tried it, but also may have been slightly under 12V (as it requires at least 12.0 to power on I've accumulated)....

I contacted the seller and he went on a ramble about how he was a 15 ASE garage mechanic derka derka derka.... and said I could send it back and he would post a youtube video for me to see him powering it on.

So I've been waiting for the time to take my own video of multimeter showing 12+V and direct connect to battery. I am moving in the next week so things have been hectic lately. I'm hoping it powers on and i have a bad ground/constant. I tested at the harness connection and got 11.x volts, but I didn't consider that I needed to get TWO results.

In better news I got my order in today from South Point Nissan (where I still get DaveB discount ) which contained new fuel filter, parking brake cables, and rear passenger wheel speed sensor (failure due to water in brake cable that froze when temperature dropped below freezing-- causing an ABS light).

That's not bad at all. I would've totally paid that.
Honestly I was tickled pink... I had bought a SAFC II for $215 and it was a fraud.

Mine came from a dumb Honda owner. It's scratched up, but they aren't deep and it doesn't look bad. Hard to believe he used it and messed it up cosmetically (I am an OCD perfectionist mind you) in a mere 2 months.

I would of paid 275 for the condition of mine and it is, live in person, I was scared to get a used one from ebay might have like 6'' of harness or something...one guy texted him and said that it was way over priced I said must of been a Honda Guy...

I checked my solder points and decided to increase my spacing in power and ground to ensure they wouldn't interfere.
I'm nervous to try and start it...
But nevertheless...
I have been reading around about initial settings.
My only mods are cattman headers, ypipe, & fastcat, nwp vias block off plate, k&n filter (not a GAB anymore--took the wire hanger out).
and for a random debate, I'll state that I also have bosch platinum+4 spark plugs and your opinion of them

BUT the big question is could someone provide initial settings?
Or do I have to input them? Can I just leave the tuner alone (and the car run like it was before the install) until I take it to the dyno??

I have my fingers crossed. gimme some good feedback and support you guys!
I'm so close I can taste it!

there are certain settings you have to input to get the RPM correct and the MAF signal to be correctly brought in to the unit and sent to the computer correctly. Thats the only way the car will start.

but you still have to see if it will power on at all. find a car that has either a good battery with 12+ volts or turn it on and let the alternator put the 14 volts out to test the unit. do that first before messing with anything else. We will all hope you just need a new battery. good luck

never seen it come on at all yet. But I have to prove and show that the unit is faulty. any method suggestion for how to test on another vehicle?
my harness is soldered to ecu harness... I used small wire (maybe 16 gauge) on battery terminals and tried to hold the others ends to both male pins on tuner at the plug
but a)small wire conducts slowly-- i could watch on a multimeter as it climbed 8->10->12 volts b)it's extremely difficult to hold everything together and still.

any expert know which if only two of the four ground/power pins must be connected?

can't get the CEL to blink during ecu reset. car won't start
Any ideas?

tuner never has powered on

Find a good clean ground. Check the harness with a meter ensuring your ground and power is good. It's not hard to troubleshoot.

Tuner is dead.

The shop I took my maxima to tested it and also, all my solders were good.
Does anyone know where I can buy a new or guaranteed to work unit??
I'm done with ebay. I need a dependable part and get my daily driver back on the road.

Any options cheaper than $400?
Need to order this TODAY

damn that sucks sorry to hear you going through so much to get something so simple to work and find out its broke.

try local craigslist maybe, or like Nikky said check "teh forums"

try google searching too, it works for me

and i honestly wouldn't cancel out eBay i would just cancel out that eBay seller and be more careful with whom i buy from but nonetheless it is eBay so its a risk sometimes

also a good thing to do is test, inspect all parts you buy new or used as soon as you receive them i ordered online or prior to purchase if dealing in person

just my 02. cents

I will continue scouring.
I'm almost to the point of going with a different brand since I am starting over more or less.

I just want a proper AFR and good fuel economy on the new headers.

Hmm, I must have never seen that, even though I posted it. I've been rocking my SAFC II for the better half of a decade with no problems as of yet, so I agree with Wizard, like always.

Also, even though I posted that diagram, I've always used Jimes diagram, which mentions no such disclaimer.

Although, I do have an extra couple of ground straps from my ECU to the chassis ground bracket the ECU is connected to.

I'm sure there are many others that haven't had any problems with the ECU ground method.

Ok. Good to know. I went ahead and tapped the ground wires to the ECM on Rods Maxima. Done it several times already on 4th gen Maxima installs w/o issue, plus the NEO instructions recommend it's done this way as well.
