Getting my timing advanced

Getting my timing advanced
So I found a tech that will advance my timing 2 degrees for 40 bucks tomorrow morning.
Is there anything else I should tell him to tweak or check or anything at all?
Consult 2 ftw.

I had a local org member that's a friend of mine do it to my 03 using cipher..as long as your motor is straight you should be fine.It takes a couple minutes to do and noticed a little better throttle response but before you do it fill up your tank with 93 and always use premium after it's bumped, never did any harm to my engine and I drove it pretty hard too

Even if the timing is advanced and you have issues the ecu can still retard timing. Go for it.
You might notice a slight decrease in mpg...though that could be placebo from a heavier foot.

I brought my car to Nissan this morning to flush/replace my transmission oil. I paid the Nissan tech $40 to do it. He was a nice guy and did it for me in 5min. He also charged me with only half an hour for the gear oil change instead of a full hour of labor, so in the end I saved about $50 on the oil change and the tech made $40. I can feel a slightly stronger pull throughout the entire rpm range. It will be the new normal in a few days...

Reset idle to stock...nope

I'm really surprised at how cheap the cipher is, if I understan correctly, it can do almost as much as the consult II? What kind of money would you be lookin at for a consult II, and what are the benefits of havin it over cipher?

Stock should be 650rpm (+/-). My point really is that Cipher can't do a reset of the idle like the Consult can.
Case in point?...when I did my spacer install my idle was at 1000rpm-ish. Opened Cipher and it could only add 250rpm to my timing, thus making it 1250rpm. Cipher was of no help at setting my idle back to the stock 650rpm...I had to do the Idle Reset procedure.

I used the Cipher to reset my ECU (rid my TPS codes), and then do the IAVL using the Cipher. Fixed my high idle last time I did my TB cleaning/spacer install.
Idle depends on the tranny:
M/T: 625±50 rpm
A/T: 675±50 rpm
Mine sits at 685 -725

Sounds like Cipher is a worth while investment though. I did not have that high idle problem after my spacers were installed....don't know if that had anything to do with headers and full exhaust being installed at the same time...or the UD pulley......but never had idle problems after my installs.
Is the consult II hard to get, and/or alot more $$ than cipher? I found some on flebay but they are all differently price and I'm not really sure what they should include

what is the purpose of raising the idle on the car? I know sometimes depending on how aggressive cams are when people install cams....they have to increase idle to keep car from stalling...but on a normal car do you get better performance or something?
#26
I don't see much of a performance increase for an otherwise stock car...

I'm guessing UDP owners may have a little electrical benefit as well.

yeah its not your standard.... service. all you need to do is talk to a tech and tell him exactly what you want
