5.5 front brake pads from Nissan, still depositing?

I currently run Gen 5.5 front brakes with Brembo blanks and EBC (actually not EBC, PBR Axxis Deluxe Plus) pads. And this setup has had crazy pad depositing going on since day one. I also heard that the OEM stuff is bad about that too. I have since heard that the OEM pads were recently "updated" in regards to this issue.

Does anyone know if that is true? I am getting tired of how bad these brakes are on my car, I am going to try either OEM pads or am willing to try anything else off the shelf that may be highly recommended (the shelf at O'reilly's, Autozone, Pep Boys, etc don't wanna special order crap any more). I just want to be sure that I won't get depositing anymore. I have redone my brakes twice, and I never drive very hard and supposedly the PBR Axxis Deluxe Plus aren't known for these problems but I got 'em. Never had this problem on any of my other cars.... it's driving me nuts!

Depositing?

Are you talking abut brake dust on rims or marks on the rotors?

On the rotors. I forget the exact term, but I'm getting brake pad material build up on the rotors causing shaking and pulsing. Rotors are always true when I have them re-cut.

Did you burnish the new brakes?

So what you rotors are warped or are you talking about brake dust? In terms of brake dust ebc have different composites so different brake dust levels. Rotors i wouldnt know

Spock, I've tried both burnishing and not. Neither way helps. My main problem now is that I am kind of frustrated that 5.5 brakes are known for this problem, and every car I've ever worked on never needed any "special" considerations for simple brake work.

ab, I'm not talking about dusting. I am talking about pad deposition on the rotors. The pads deposit material on the rotors which causes shaking and pulsing during braking. When the rotors are checked, they are always true and round. My car actually "surges" as it rolls to a stop, so frickin' annoying. This is my 3rd time around with these brakes. When I search about this prob, seems to occur with the OEM and most aftermarket pads.

but my main question is if anyone has tried Nissan OEM pads recently? Supposedly they are "reformulated" to prevent this problem....

Maybe I'll just get gen 6 brakes next time....

I had the rotors recut today. I found out I was using PBR Axxis Deluxe Plus pads, not EBC. The PBR Axxis Deluxe Plus pads were falling apart. They are a NAO Ceramic design, and I saw chunks missing from the friction surface.

I just used O'Reilly's pads for now. Hopefully the problem won't ever come back.

I had this problem with my OEM rotors and pads but so far after a driving a few months with these Powerstop drilled/slotted rotors and Powerstop Extreme ceramic pads, I haven't had the problem come back (knocks on wood).

i did this setup on my car a few months back.

No issues so far with Akebono pads and house brand/prostop pep boys rotors, in one week of lots of highway stops. This is totally stock gen 5.0 setup though, not a 5.5.

I was going to wait for the powerstops rotor and pad combo, but when I looked at the brakes last Saturday morning thinks looked like they could not wait any longer.

They were "updated" a few years ago per Dave B. I run brembo blanks and OEM pads and they're great for a daily driver.

Cool, I thought I read that somewhere.

So far, so good with my O'reilly's branded "BrakeBest" brand. They are $38 a set, and I compared them to a set of $65 Wagner's. It was obvious they come from the same factory in the USA as the labels were exactly the same and the pads looked the same. SO I bought the cheaper ones.

I've put about 100 miles on 'em so far so good. If they screw up I'm getting OEM next.

Pads are not something you want to be cheap on. Cheap pads= problems.. I put Hawks on several years ago and no issues. They were about $80 though. Hope they work for you.

honestly, you can cheap out on pads- dont cheap out on rotors.

cheap pads will wear quicker and thats really it.

cheap rotors will warp, and then you have a bigger job on your hands. warped rotors cause steering imbalance, heck cheap rotors could even crack in half and then lock your wheel up, etc.

I didn't cheap out on pads. Cheap pads start at $16 around here. The Axxis pads were SUPPOSED to be good. They fell apart and transferred pad material to the rotors like crazy.

$38 is good for ceramic pads made in USA, not Mexico or China. Paying more doesn't always get you more. Just ask the guy in the new A4 who got smoked by an old Maxima on the way to work this morning!
