DOOR SCRATCH REPAIR

JUST TO WARN YOU FOLKS....
this is not on my maxima, but wifey's black 2010 G37s coupe.
she called me yesterday stating someone at the mall scratched her car up pretty good. (hope those shoes she got were worth it!)
so i told i would fix it and to relax. the damage was pretty bad. really deep.
i went and got her matched paint touch-up pen from the infiniti dealer, and a clear coat pen. (the rest of the instructions are in the photo. if anyone wants better details, just ask. ill be glad to help)

After a few before & after pics, i did a write up on the G37 forums, and i figured id pass along the process onto you guys here.
results will be the same on any car and might vary depending on how hard you sand, and use the rotary tool, but i figured id post it anyway.
(if i broke some forum rules, i apologize in advance.)

Damn man, that came out really good. There's a couple spots on my Max that need some TLC, I think I might give this a try. Thanks for the info.

some tips i didnt write in:

WHEN SANDING: use very gentle strokes. work in one direction. make sure to keep the sand paper wet. wash away any dust as you work every 15-20seconds(or re-wet the paper every 15-20seconds)
STOP every minute, dry, and inspect the surface. Always start with 2000grit, and work your way to the 3000grit paper.

WHEN USING A ROTARY DRILL TIP, OR ORBITAL SANDER WITH FOAM PADS: make sure to use a quarter size amount of rubbing compound(very fine compound- as some compound could be to course and kill the 3000grit work you already did with sandpaper). dont sit in one spot for to long. hit the spot, and release(take off the pad) and hit it again, and remove, hit it again, remove (to not overheat the surface)
If the rubbing compound becomes dry, spray some water and go back at it.

then rub in polish by hand, or with a very-very gentle spinning cycle of a foam pad wipe off, and then wax the surface.

for $25 this is a good kit to invest in. you can wash & reuse the pads.
the rubbing compound is just fine compound, and the "scratch remover" is just regular turtle polish(incase you run out of the stuff inside this kit)

-------------------------------------------------------------------
you start with the rubbing compound on the purple pad, and work into the "scratch remover" or regular polish into the black pad.

sanding.

i did more on wifey's car today.
i penned in touch up paint. its obviously higher then the stock paintjob, so i sand it with 2 or 3000grit. rubbing compound, polish & wax it.

Did you use the pen or a broken match-stick to apply the paint?

keep a piece of paper handy to test the pen on constantly, and you can use it with better results than a match stick.

Thanks, I have the pleasure of having the car keyed from one side to the other (i bought it like that, happened to original owner, oh well )
Anyway, it could use some buffing out, I might try this
Great Job by the way!

Very nice job. Do you think this would work on door dings? I've collected a few over the years.
