Where to fabricate an input device on a 5th gen (pics inside)

I'm building a CarPC with a touch screen, and want to have a tactile way of changing volume/controlling the cpu with macros, etc. I plan on using one of these

Here's a picture to give an idea of how large it is

If you were in my position, where would YOU mount it? I've seem to run out of ideas on this one... (I have an AT if it matters)

I'd pull the cigarette lighter and put it there.

This is from a Jaguar XF. I like this setup, you dont have to lean forward to operate

That looks great, but unless I ditch the handbrake, I don't think this layout is possible

You could always have just 1 cupholder and mount in in place of the 2nd cupholder. Although if you hit a bump and your beverage were to spill it could end up on the ****.

So true. Just reading the last bit made me shudder.

Maybe I can go with something smaller .. does anyone know of any "barebones" volume control ***** (preferably interfaced through USB?)

Considered this, but I just got that entire piece sanded/primed/painted and it would be a b***h to have to do all of that again

Without having to reach...what about in the door?
...or down the side of the console by the front of the seat cushion.

Are you 100% set on using that particular ****? There are other (smaller) ways to get input signals to your car PC. Doesn't have to be a ****. Is this for volume control only or for general user input as well?

Also, please clear out your PM box.

What do you suggest? I know phidgets has one, but it requires a bit of coding and configuration, and is around the same price as the Griffin unit. This is the cheapest one aside from the 3dConnection and the Spacenavigator.

Good idea with the door, might not be a bad idea to use a smaller **** in the door panel (where the windows are). Will read up on how to route wires through the door.

How about a touchscreen?

Not difficult but you have to drill through the door jamb on the car side, then just cut a small slit in the existing grommet and run it into the door.

auveeb, please clear out your PM box.
