Belts
Time for the i35 to get new belts. Anyone with first hand knowledge on dayco. What belts would you recommend? Called Nissan, they want 61 bucks for both and Infiniti wants 54. I thought Nissan would be cheaper. I am doing the work myself. Just want your thoughts and opinions. Thanks in advance

I would personally go OEM, though you can get aftermarket if you change them every 60K or don't plan to keep the car long-term and want to spend less. I like the OEM Nissan ones b/c they are long-life, and designed in a way that if the belt ever slips, the heat generated from the slippage will cause the cords built within the belt to shrink, thereby recovering tension. It's like a safety feature. I feel confident having Nissan belts and plan to push mine to 100K before changing. I've seen people go longer than 100K w/o problems.
Our cars have 2 fan belts, for the power steering and the AC.

There are some who say oem with this being said, I believe in oem for some things. Belts are done, and gates are in and running with out a problem , given they are new. I thought the back belt was a real pita. Had to go get tools from a buddy of mine. I have some nice stuff. Could not find my angle extention. Then again I've misplaced my spark plug gauge aswell. And I just put in new denso plugs like 3 weeks ago. Anyhow the belts are a pita. Why would Nissan just not use a serpentine belt. Chalk another design flaw up for the Nissan/i35. Infinity and Nissan all the same to me

Just took out my alternator, then came here for continuing reading after saying wtf. Saw your recent post, so commiserating...
Naturally I wanted to replace all the belts while replacing the alternator, but also winced after seeing it, and reading the power steering belt threads.
How hard is it to steer with a broken PS belt? I'm thinking of leaving the old one on, and putting the new one in the trunk.
Still have no idea if I will be able to get that long bolt back into alternator, had to pull it out by feel, and hoped it would stay in but it fell out. Now back to the PITA.

Gatorback belts are phenomenal, but Autozone sells Dayco which also comes with a 3 year warranty, the OEM Nissan belt has a 1 year warranty. OEM is just fine, but I don't feel it is necessary.
