CCFL Cluster Project
I have done the LED conversion to my gauge cluster but i want to step it up a notch, I picked up some CCFL tubes with 12 volt inverters from some small lcd tv's that where in a car setup. This is what the lights look like now, in the near future i will be making these work in my cluster.

Oh I like where this is going Professor. Keep us updated, I've wanted to do this for a while, and I'm seriously considering trying it out on my gauges when things settle down around the homestead.
Pictures and constant updates sir!!!

Updates
Ok the cluster is done, i do not Have any pics of it on yet, i want to video it because pictures do not do much justice, however here are some photos of me working on it.
Here i had to remove this voltage regulator from the front side to the back side, thats the
little black chip you see sticking up near the inverter.
Sorry for pic size, Most forums auto resize them but its not implemented here yet.

Looks pretty hotspotted in the vid. I know how cameras can bring them out even more though. I was kind of surprised though, looked like you ran the tube perfectly horizantal, and yet the hotspotting is not in a straight line.... am I missing something, or is the light just being blocked by something?

It could be diffused abut from the clear cluster cover, i did not really notice the hot spots until i watched the video. The tube is strait across so i do not know why it looks uneven.

Hmm that would make sense. See how it is after a few nights and post back, often the change is so drastic that we don't notice any imperfections right away.
I must say though, looks incredible, and large cudos sir for taking this on and getting it done with some haste! If you decide to do a V2, I have a decent idea, assuming that CCFL tube is as flexible as it seems.

the video looks pretty good. reminds me of the lexus gauge clusters. Some of them used the ccfl for illumination. this may be worth a shot to try. im not really a fan of the hot spots from the leds. and from the video there dosent seem to be any from the ccfl

Professor it looks nice but i was wondering if this would work.http://www.retrosolutionsllc.com/ser...yes/Categories
i have been wanting to try the ideal but never found out what size was needed.Maby you can try these on yor next version.or let me know they gauge sizes and i might try it out.

Yes the ODO comes on anytime the key is on.
Great ideas/links from everyone, I may just have to test some of those out I have wanted to try CCFL for so long, you may be pushing me into it Prof! LOL.
As far as V3, I think you should try the CCFL route man, I like the way they turned out, just make sure you get some high quality ones it would suck for them to burn out, heard so many bad things about them not lasting.
