Hard Start while warm? Video included
Hello,
My 2000 Maxima with 195k has been having a hard start problem while it's warm. It happens after I've been driving for a little while and stop. After about 5 minutes, if I try to start it, it will crank and make a catching noise but not start. The car will usually start on the second or third try especially if I press the gas pedal.
I have no codes according to autozone and the SES light is not on. It first started a day that I switched from 87 to 91. At the pump was the first time it didn't start on the first try. I switched back to 87 and it seemed to improve after a little but now it seems to be getting worse and I fear it will let me sit. From research here, I think it might be a crank position sensor, a cam position sensor, or temp sensor, but thought maybe a video might help avoid replacing every sensor on the motor!

As you can see in the vid... it starts on the first try but makes that catching noise. The second time it makes the catching noise and won't start. The third it makes it again but just cranks and cranks. The last I pushed the gas pedal and it started finally.
Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

When my Cam position sensor went out in my 02.....it did a similar thing....it just got worse and worse and finally did not want to start at all....just kept turning over and over and over and over........had to get it towed to the stealership and it was changed under the TSB....thank god!!
The only thing is that it didn't really matter if the car was cold or hot.....if I recall correctly.......was a few years ago

I was having the same issue with my 4th gen. I replaced alot to make it work so I wont be of help but I replaced, starter, cam and crank sensors and Im also running emanage ultimate and I changed some setting on the emanage ultimate. But I noticed that after the cam sensor it seemed to make a world a difference.

Thanks guys. I think that will be the sensor I start with so any suggestions on where to get it? Do you think going for this one by "Replacement" would be risky: http://www.partstrain.com/store/deta...se#eas-reviews
Or is there one from this link that would be best? beck arnley? http://www.google.com/#q=2000+nissan...5e06fa755c7447
Anyone else have this problem but only when warm??
