I'm no longer buying new tires, though. They just don't last. There's a shop nearby that has lots of barely used tires (from dealers I'm guessing). I can go and pick out what I want and they only cost $30-45 each mounted and balanced.
Toyos are my fav, but at 300 per tire I don't think so.

I'll be shopping for new tires and rims in the spring/summer as well. I currently have stock rims with yokohama yk520s. The original owner had just purchased them when i bought the car at 32K. I'm at 81k now and they've worn pretty good for me. They are very good tires in the rain and the snow. I'll probably pick up another set of Yokohamas; I'm currently checking out the AVID ENVigors.

Bridgestone Potenza RE-760 sports rock, excellent grip, very quiet and they wear pretty well, had 19k on the back ones when my car was hit and they still had more than half the tread life left on them.

Car and Driver had an "Affordable Summer Tire Review" in 2009. This may be a bit dated, but I think all of these tires are still available. ( http://tinyurl.com/koal9l )
Ist place: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec ( http://tinyurl.com/lbu4vo )

I've heard those general exclaims we're pretty good as well. However, I'm running Hankook Ventus V4 es tires. Grip is good in rain and dry weather. Didn't have any trouble driving around philly when the snowstorm him this winter. The V12's 03VQMax suggested are supposed to be better but more pricey. Treadwear is decent on these I believe, had em for about 6000 now and nothing bad.
Got my Hankook's for a pretty decent deal. I think it was something like 380 or 400 total mounted balanced taxes and with warranty on size 225/50/17. Although that took alot of shopping around.

If you want to spend ~200 a tire, go with dunlop star spec Z1, if you want to spend ~120 a tire, go with general exclaim UHP.
Short warning on the exclaims, though... They have soft sidewalls which makes them great for straight line traction, but can get slightly squirmy on hard braking and a little sluggish on turn in. I've gotten used to it, but I wouldn't use them for autocross.

^^^Cmax just took the words right out of my mouth lmfao.I've ran both on my 4th gen and they were both great but if I remember correctly the Nitto's lasted a little longer than the BFG's though. Both highly recommended.

I've been buying tires for various cars for 30 years now, and every time I find myself with a set of Firestone tires, it comes with regret. They've always been garbage.
But hey, Hyundai used to make garbage, too, and look where they are today.

+1. I ordered a pair to replace the rear tires on my 325is. I've only driven on them for a week, but they seem great so far. Quiet, good grip in the wet and dry, and I got them for $110 each. I think they're down to $105 each now on tirerack.com in the 245/40/17 size.

Definitely the best for the price.
