2001 "Service Engine Soon" Light Just Came On

Hey All,

The SES light on my 2001 Maxima SE just came on for the first time that I can remember. I have 90k miles on the car. I thought maybe it was my MAF going because I had not changed the filter on my Injen intake for quite some time, but I changed the air filter a few days ago, let the car sit with the (-) disconnected on the battery for a few hours, and the SES light is still on. Any suggestions or thoughts? Thanks for the advice.

Also, does anyone have instructions on re-installing the factory air filter setup? I have had the Injen CAI installed for 7+ years and I am officially over it. I want to return to my stock setup.

~Kirk

Get the code pulled, could be a million things. Highly unlikely it's the MAF if there is no driveability loss.

How or where can I get the code read for me? Do I have to get Nissan to do it or can any auto mechanic do this for me? ~Kirk

Autozone will pull the codes for free. Just ask.

Dude, you got over 1000 posts and you don't know where to get codes pulled at?

Man, I was thinking the exact same thing...
Not only that, but it looks like someone already gave him at least one answer an hour before he asked that question.

It might sound ridiculous, but check your gas cap. The ring around my gas cap gets caught all the time and sets the light off if it's not put on right.

Then again, it could just be that I'm in NJ and I'm not allowed to just pump my own gas.. Instead I get to wait for 15 minutes while the one person they have working gets to the 7 other cars before me.

If the car is running find, most likely the code is from the o2 sensors after the precat, but you have to get the code pulled to be sure or its just a guessing game!
