Looking at New Wheels (size/offset, etc.)

So I'm looking at getting some new wheels this summer to go with the TEIN SSs that's I'll also be getting. I really like the XXR 518s:

So my questions are as follows: Here are the sizes available that I am considering:

17x7
17x8.5
18x8.5

All of the above are available in +48 offset, but I think I can find them in a +35 offset. Once I'm lowered on Tein SS coilovers, what offset is going to fit and look best with each of these 3 sizes of wheel?

Seriously, look at the wheel, then look at the breastplate on this Centurian.

Before attacking the 12 Colonies, the Cylons were well-respected for their custom wheels.

+35 should be good for 8.5" wide, if I remember correctly you should be able to go down to +25 on a 9" wide before poking too hard.

Yeah, flush without rubbing and having to roll fenders.

I still want to be able to rotate the tires front to back, so maybe I could just do rear wheel spacers and +35 all around?

If you're set on xxr's, check out www.nlmotoring.com. They had the best price when I got my 521's

yea go get a 5mm spacer and you'll be good to go..i'm only mentioning that because of how the rear sits in a little more than the front...check my car when i had the 19s..gives you an idea of what i'm talking about

18x8.5 +35 w/a 5mm spacer in the rear and a centered beam.

In the summer I wear Z33 tracks (8.5/+33 all around) with a 5mm spacer in the front, and a 10 or 15mm spacer in the back. Depends on the tires I wear, hence the use of a 10 or 15 out back.

I imagine if I was slizzam3d y0, I'd probably look like some of you guys.

Well... I was thinking of sticking with the 17's, because for one, my performance would be better. Another less important reason is that I could still use my 17" summer tires that have quite a bit of tread life left... I'm still not sure though...

And... if I get 17's, then every time I buy new tires I'll save a good $200...

Yeah, I've decided against 17x7. I shouldn't even have put that in my original post. I think 17x8.5 might be the best option for me. We'll see though. There's something to be said for how nice 18's look.

If I was looking for performance, I'd get a dedicated lightweight 17. Any idea what these weigh?

I have stocks for snow, LW 17's for perf, and Z33 18's for "perf" but more wanna be looks. One for most occasions.

The 17x8.5's are 20lbs according to the XXR website... so that's not too horrible... not amazing either though... but you can get them for like $110/wheel!!!

Oh wow. Yeah, I will... but you can't beat $440 for a set of decent-weight, nice-looking wheels! I will keep looking, but price is definitely a big factor for me.

Actually, my ideal wheels are Altima SE-R's ... They're hard to find though. Especially at a decent price.

To be honest, with how clean your car is, I'd hold out for a set of SE-Rs. Aftermarket wheels can make it look tacky if size/offset/style aren't done right IMO. If you're set on them, go 18x8.5 +35 and throw in a 5mm spacer in the rear as long as your beam isn't completely off center.

That's some good thinking there... Yeah, the other current option I'm battling with is the possibility of getting my stock 17's powdercoated black. I know somewhere that'll do it for $50/wheel, so I might do that just for the time being. $200 for a nice change isn't too bad...

Ok. Nevermind about the SERs. I don't think I'll be able to afford them anyway.

Yeah, but some sets of wheels (XXRs for example) are nice-looking, not too heavy, and only $440... as opposed to many others that are twice as much or more. But +1 on the spacers comment. I agree.

Listen to this guy please. Only thing I would change is I would go 19s instead of 18s. But I'm biased. And tire prices arent too appealing.

My 19s are 24lbs a piece. Obviously not light, but 20lbs are heavy for 17s. I wouldnt touch a set of 17s unless they had a sub 20lb weight.

I tried a set of se-rs on my car and I threw up a little in my mouth. They sunk in so freakin much in the front. My car looked like rino with legs from a wiener dog...

hehe, don't worry, I'm not getting SERs.. I just saw the MOTM a couple months ago (Merlot color) that had SERs, and I liked the look.

Well dont get me wrong, it looks good from the side shot and the color flows well. But on a slammed car it needs some beefy spacers. (20mm in the front wouldnt be too far off)

Honestly, while I'm deciding on some aftermarket wheels I think I'm gonna spend $200 and get my stock 17's powdercoated black. Then I can have a change but not rush my wheel decision.

So hypothetical question. On stock 17" SE wheels, what size of spacers would give the best look with a drop? I know the back is more tucked in than the front and will need bigger spacers, but what are good sizes? 15 mm front, 20mm back?

With the very (very ) little info I've retained about wheel spacers, there's a certain depth that will require new lugs when you exceed it. 5mm, I think. Right or wrong, you might want to figure that part out, too.
