may be clean the TB but be careful not to mess up the IC unit...
tires pumped to specs? I run mine at 35psi are you running on stock size tires?
alignment?
Are you using premium gas? you should be...
any SES codes?
may be stuck rear calipers? (very common issue)
how much junk you have in the trunk?
last but not least how do you drive? rapid acceleration with quick stops? or slow acceleration with very easy breaking?

There are a million different reasons why you could get a bad MPG... the most common problem is you right foot

Definitely agree with the right foot. I can notice a huge difference in mileage if I go easy on the car versus driving like I "normally" would drive. If I drive "normal" the gas light comes on around 320. If I drive nicely, about 370.

Get NGK brand, Platinum or copper. Copper won't last as long but are cheaper.

AC on? A lot of idling? any check engine light? There's a lot of factors here not really addressed. 260-280 miles on how many gallons? You can't just go by the gauge. We need some numbers here. But a general tune up like someone else said will never hurt.

Accelerating slowly always helps, but isn't much fun obviously. I do it more though as gas gets more expensive because those extra 50-60 miles on the same # of gallons seem to add up pretty quick in dollars. Now if only they would stop making gas with ethanol, we'd all see our MPG numbers jump by probably 5% or more. I know you can get it, but it's more expensive and (at least for me) difficult to justify based on how far I have to go to get it...

God damnit...why does everyone say their gas mileage by tank? This is not an accurate way to measure your mileage. You do it by miles and how much gas on the next fill up. It isn't that hard to calculate...

Stop and go city traffic kills your fuel economy. Other than maintenance as suggested, accelerate easier. Changing driving habits would be the best thing to do. Also, try changing up your routes you take to avoid as many lights as you can, and try to pick a lighter traffic route. In the morning when you head to work, try leaving earlier when the traffic is lighter, if possible.

It's ALL city miles.
Live in downtown, work in downtown dallas.
Stop and go for the most part.

The thing is, I WAS getting about 300-320 miles per tank.
It's just recently dropped that much.

There's no service engine light and nothing seems to be hurting.

I figure being close to 100k that i'd need to do a little regular 100k maintenance to help the situation

Obviously this is the best place for advice.

Also, I dont have a heavy right foot at all, unless I'm getting on the highway which is rare.

Since it's spring time now, your local gas companies could have switched fuel blends. That might cause it. Any pure gas (ethanol free) gas stations around you? You'll get better mileage using pure gas instead of the ethanol blended gas. Ethanol doesn't have the BTU's that gas does, you you actually see a drop in fuel economy.

One o fmy oxygen sensors is being lazy.

I hooked up my DMOV to both of my sensors after it waws warmed up and the one by the firewall was reading 0.1-0.7v switching pretty quickly, the one by the radiator would change but would stay at 0.13v for a few seconds then switch back up to .7v , this leads me to believe that one is on its way out.


As far as the OP's concern i would check your MAF sensor ( should be 1.2-1.8v at idle after the engine is warmed up at idle ) and your oxygen sensors.



If they are ok then look at your driving habits, weight, tire pressures, etc.


Does anyone know what the oxygen sensors in the exhaust manifold are called?>?

Every website that sells them in my price range have called them just about every name except the one i need.


I have about $100 budget to spend on that sensor

I know this sounds dumb, but last year my gas dropped about 50-75 miles per tank. I went to walmart and got a fuel injection cleaner or two. Used one each fill-up for 2 fill-ups. I got my mileage back. In the winter I get about 320-340 a tank and spring/summer is 375ish a tank. Very little city driving.

Clean the MAF I was getting about the mileage to the tank whitch is about 17-16 miles to the gallon. I clean my MFA on Monday and so far I notice my car more powerful and read other threads that it helps with gas mileage.

Yep, that's normal to lose a lot in city driving. Glad you are not having problems then especially with gas prices the way they are now!

Hey guys, I just found out I am getting 10.5 miles per gallon on my car....

I filled up and was sitting at 1391.3 on my mileage tracker.

The next time I filled up I was sitting at 1483 on my mileage tracker and I filled up 8.654 gallons.

So, that comes out to 10.5 miles per gallon.

I have a clean air filter, and I changed my oil 1000 miles ago. What can I do to make it run better?

How many miless? Any CEL? What was the recent service, if any? Change plugs? Fuel filter? Tire pressure? Tires wear evenly? What year? Automatic? This is a pretty loaded question so we will need some more specifics
