White Substance in Fuel tank + fuel pump???
So the other day was driving my 2001 max when it shut off on me. Trued starting up back up, was turning over but didn't want to start. After trying to diagnose the problem, I had it towed to my mechanic.
I spoke to my mechanic today and he said that it was some sort of build up in the gas tank which eventually clogged the fuel pump. He asked if i had put any fuel additives in the gas tank as he found a WHITE SUBSTANCE to be the problem. My question is...what the hell could this be from? also my gas tank locks, so no one could possibly pour anything in there.
If anyone has any idea on what this could be from please let me know as i have never heard of a problem like this one. Thanks in advance

grease?
Have you been the only owner of this car? It could be white grease.
Here is why I guess that, even though it is unlikely.
The previous owner of my Maxima was pathetic and did nothing for maintenance. My car came with 3 check engine codes to address, and a completely black air filter. I found white grease all around the gas cap area, including inside the fuel fill pipe. The pathetic idiot attempted to use white grease to get a seal on the gas cap rather than replace the gas cap for a few bucks.

somebody on the block might not like you.....invest in A locking gas cap or fill up at A gas station that is well known...not the one that gets one customer every two hours and the gas is mixed with anything they can find.

i know white substance on your dipstick usually means a cracked or leaking head gasket but i've never hear about this in the gas tank. maybe its condensation or water getting into your tank somehow. Was there smoke coming out of your tailpipe or anything?
