I use to do this every so often over on a board I moderate (e38 forum on Bimmerboard.com) since people use to be interested in the information and there seem to be several people looking for Maxima's. So I figured I'd share here since I have access. Keep in mind these are dealer only auctions, so if you've never seen numbers like these you are about to find out how much these cats mark things up. The "Above" "Avg" and "Below" is not tied to condition, it's what it sold for compared to what Manheim says the value is. As a matter of fact, if you've bought your car in the last several months from a dealer it very well may be up here. Enjoy!

This is only my second foray into Nissandom, but I didnt think it was that bad. Excellent examples of 02-03's are selling in the 7-8k range which according to my window sticker is ~ 1/4 of the the cost new. But then again I'm also use to BMW flagship depreciation, which FAR outweighes Nissan. A desirable 01 740i Sport can be had for about 12k with less than 100k miles, and they were over 70k brand new.

I mean seriously, if we're going by the reliability and features of a used car, dodge (all) and ford's non-full size cars should be worth about 500 bucks if over 75k miles.

It's kind of sobering realizing our cars are almost worthless at auction. But as interesting as this is, estimates of true-market-value have more real world relevance for me. I like trolling AutoTrader.com every once in a while to see what the 5.5 gen is going for, then deduct about 10%.

But these numbers are interesting, no doubt about it.

Thanks man. I do the same thing, but I also include cars.com, eBay, and a national Craigslist search. (The search by state isnt bad either.) These cars IMO are holding their value VERY well, but I'm a Max newbie so what do I know. There was an 03 6speed TE in Raleigh, NC with ~73k miles that just sold on eBay for $9,600. It was listed on CL for MONTHS at $10.5. I wanted another 03 TE speed with NAV (88k miles), and that one sold at auction for $7700. WAY to rich for what I wanted to pay, and the dealer wanted $9400. Last but not least look at this one that up the street from me: Ask for a reach around before buying this!

It seems like you can throw KBB, Edmunds, and NADA out the window when it comes to value where the Max is concerned, they seem to be an in demand car ESPECIALLY the 6 speed variant. Most sale prices are well over what KBB and Edmunds say they are worth.

Usually the nicer/more rare the car the higher the price. Most dealers will frown upon manual transmission cars as shifting enthusiasts seem to be an aging breed. Some however know that there is a segment that will jump all over one if the price is right. Most dealers put "RARE" in the listing somewhere for the 6 speed cars, and that word "rare" means they add $1000 or more.

That one up the street from you... almost $13k for a bone-stock SE that looks like it hasn't seen any TLC since the day it was bought. Sure, the mileage is insanely low, but not $13K low.

When I go to sell my 6MT, (Spring 2012) I'll be selling it here first, and the Org member who buys it will know they're getting a well cared for, carefully modded car.

I got suckered in buying my Max for a high price. At least $2K higher than what everybody paid for in the auction.

Then again this was in craigslist.

But I still love my Max and probably sell it for the same amount as I bought it plus some. I have dumped at least $1k on repairs on this baby.

I know I didn't get my maxima dirt cheap, but it was hard enough finding a 6spd manual transmission with leather seats and a nav. I paid about 7000 (final price after tax at a dealer) a few months ago. Did I get a good deal? O_o

Yeah "rare" is becoming a bit overused. Saw it on a dealer ad for a early 90's Ford Probe....in that case its "rare" for a reason, rare that it made it this far in life. Love dealer hype

Was it abused? I had a '00 with 125k and it looked and drove like brand new. People thought I got it straight off the lot. No repairs were ever done except a maf that the previous owner killed by over oiling.

I think some of you guys are forgetting that this is Dealer's auction prices and not a consumer auto auction. The dealer is going to buy at lower prices than you will ever see on cars.com, autotrader, craigslist, etc etc.

The prices will vary greatly because Dealers are buying the car as-is. So a 2k3 can sell lower than a 2k easily if the dealer is putting $$$ to get it up to par.

2k over auction sounds a tad high to me, especially if you had to put more money into it. But it depends on the condition of the car,if it was what you wanted etc etc. A car is worth whatever someone will pay for it. I had a very specific budget for a 6 speed Max and no matter what I was going to get one with leather, and all the heated stuff (did NOT want NAV) for the price I had in mind or less. Patience is a virtue.

Occasionally you can get deals on CL BETTER that what you find at the auctions. I live in an area HEAVILY populated with military (Norfolk/VA BEACH VA) and these cats d@mn near give things away when its time for them to go out on float.

sometimes, if a car price is high at an auction, its because a somebody is buying specifically for a person, who has NO clue what the hell to pay and just want the car. Broker/dealer doesnt care because they get paid the same regardless.

ofcourse it would worry anyone it's a lot of milage, but before buying it i was looking for long time could find nice car for lower than 5500, found one in craigslist with 95K but i didn't like the car it had a lot of mechanical problems,
better buy a car with high milage no problems than car low milage with lots of problems it all depends how previous owner took care of it.
