Glad to hear no one was hurt, but wow that is a lot of damage and as stated above just above the reinforcement line of the Max, what did she bump into? an over sized SUV looks like she tucked right under their rear bumper.

Yeah, 10-15 will do that, especially if the car was already pitching down, as someone mentioned, everything hit was above the bumper so the damage looks alot worse.
I don't think it's totaled, both fenders look in tact, which means there's litte pulling or reshaping needed to any supports. Parts replacement and paint. You could be looking at about $3000...$2000 if you get in good with the shop. And get a few used parts. The car was used already, nothing wrong with an old hood and bumper cover...

I'm sorry about the wreck and I'm glad no one died/ got seriously injured. On another note...be honest you were driving 10 mph forward they were going 50 in reverse! Nasty looking smash sorry again...

Damage is just shy under 5 grand and she hit an old obviously strong american car with a high bumper lol...We have full coverage so they took care of everything and they gave her a cool little beetle 07... I kinda like it but head-room in the back is horrible...=O)

Wow most people in this thread must've never been in an accident.
I believe 10mph easily.. Clearly it did not hit the structure of the car, but all the parts that would just collapse/break under pressure.

WRONG. Comparitive analysis has shown that through time, the cost of building a car and materials has become more and more expensive. Hence, why the cost of cars keeps going up... inflation considered.
Cars today are BUILT to crumple on impact. This has nothing to do with cost savings, but is a big safety feature. The more of an impact the car absorbs, the less its passengers absorb. They could build cars fairly cheaply that could withstand substantial impacts with little more than a dent or ding. But then, imagine what hitting someone at 10 mph would feel like to you?
For example... most people can sprint at about 10 mph. So sprint face first into a wall. That's about what it would feel like. Now imagine if you could sprint 50 mph face first into a wall...
That's why newer cars aren't exactly as "strong" as they used to be.

The reason insurance premiums are increasing has a whole lot more to do with the cost of medical care. Don't believe me? Check your policy, see what you pay the most premium for.

Get the money in a check only to you, not both you and the shop. If the insurance already sent a check with joint names, have them cancel it and send a new one to just you, then put the money into the bank. $5k may be a little steep, and you can work with the shop to find ways to get costs down on the repair. Whatever is left over you can keep...Of course if it goes over, The shop will open dialog with teh insurance company on your behalf. In that case, you wouldn't get any leftover more than likely.
