The smell will go like everyone says. if you are that mad it smells you can rent a carpet steam cleaner or buy one at target or walmart. i have a dirt devil easy steam cleaner. This would be good for the car.

it sprays a water/detergent mix on the carpet and has brissles to agitate the rug and then re go over it ot vacuum the water. it will clean the rug like its first day of life and kill the smell. then fabreze it. also you can take a damp facecloth and wipe your headliner. although i agree with Rochester, he probably had a smoke then got in the car. All is well, by the next week or two the smell will be history.
I smoke and smoke in my car. When spring comes i give it a good douching from head to toe and dont smoke in it for a 1 -2 weeks and the car smells like the day i bought it. wish i could quit smoking.
Damn corporations, the man has me and im so weak

My car always smells of grease, dirt and smoke when I get it back from the shop. I'm certain none of the guys smoke in my car but they certainly smoke around it. With the window down (which it will invariably be in the shop) it's bound to stink when you get it back.

Look at it this way, it gives you reason to detail the inside of your car. At least you've done it recently (sorry) you can do it now. Leather is resilient. Don't think that driving around in the cold will do it. Clean the leather then condition it. Shampoo the seats as others have mentioned and give the dash a good cleaning/conditioning. All will be okay.

Completely clean the interior then find a detail shop with an ozone generator. That is the only way to permanently remove the smell.

Wanna hear something crazy that I do to keep my car fresh?

JuicyFruit gum in the glove box and center console and fabric dryer sheets under the front seats.

you now have my secret, use it for good not evil....... cost $1.50

its just a slight scent of goodness that everyone who gets in WILL notice..

Man I hate taking my car to places to get work done, I never trust what they're doing behind my back, I've seen first hand mechanics, salesman and even managment rip around in other peoples cars treating them like indy cars and acting like they just took it for a little test drive and such

I expected to see some pictures of burn holes or something.

Just get some Ozium and spray the interior of your car (the air, not any surfaces).

And btw, you have a very slim chance that the mechanic is actually going to pay to get your car detailed.

I'm gonna agree that the OP is being WAY overdramatic. Generally anytime I see someone jumping around screaming "I'm gonna sue," they've lost all credibility to me as a rational human being because to them, revenge is more important than simply making the situation right.

However, the smoke smell still lingers.

Years ago I let my GF (at the time) drive my Prelude. She and her friend must have smoked a whole pack in the hour she had it. A good cleaning of all surfaces on the inside did the trick as the smoke "residue" that sticks to things seemed to hold the odor.

People have mentioned Febreze -- spray it on the headliner where the smoke likely hit the most.

hmm, I'm a smoker so this is one of the issues I deal with when I help with friends cars and such.
However, the smell from my clothes, never stays in their car, so they must have been smoking around the car, or your just oversensitive to cigarette smoke smell.
