Stick with 17 or 18" wheels if you don't want to hurt ride quality.

If ride quality is to be retained, stick with 17's. You can go an inch wider than stock, but that's it.

My summer wheels are 19's and the ride is rough. My winter wheels are the stock 17's with stock size tires. Much nicer.

I like having a stock appearing and sounding car, makes it all that more surprising to others.

18 inch rims do well in the 5th/5.5 gens, as has been stated above. Offset on the other hand is going to be based on how wide your rims are. If you go with an 8.5 inch wide wheel, you will have to figure out which offset will suit your tastes best.

My 18x8.5's weigh 43 pounds. I had set of Murano rims that I used for about a week after a blowout and hated them. As long as you can get a lightweight wheel in 17 or 18 you will be golden.

i had 20's/ scraped in the rear all the time with my tokico white/vogtland drop
now i have g35 19" rays. lightweight forged rims
a little rub here and there with full load, but nice fitment, and decent ride.
im even considering dropping to 18's tho in the future.

so bigger diameter wheels that are still light and forged are a fail?
my 19s weigh only 19 pounds. Is that a fail?

17 inch looks way to small for the size of a 5th gen IMO.
18s are perfect but 19s fit like a glove.
However like it was stated offset is the key to a perfect set-up.

BTW i am on Tein SS with 245/35/19 and the car rides firm but not bone-jarring. It is not true that bigger wheels = worse ride. The suspension set-up has alot to do with it.

Remember suspension travel is key...

ok honestly man the smaller the wheel the more tire you have the side wall and more open space for air in the tire basically make a bigger and bigger coushin as the size of the wheel goes down.

So use your logic and dont listen to the guys saying 19's are fine, cause thos tire are low profile tires. they obviously will have a firm ride. with 18's you will feel a differance in the ride, but personally its really not as dramatic as some people make it out to be. yes its a little stiffer but in the least sense of the word.

I love the look of the stock wheels on a dropped maxima but that just my opinion. and yes to add to your performance if you are looking for a little bit of that. I would go with some lighter weight wheels.

Good luck
Jake

Tire size has a lot to do with it too, I don't care if you're riding on bags or stock springs. Of course, that is totally subjective based on your preference and your tolerance for ride quality, just like the "what size is perfect on a 5th Gen" debate. I went from 235/40/18 to 245/40/18 and while I did sacrifice some cornering stability, the ride quality improvement is immense. So even within a particular diameter whether its 17, 18, 19, or 24, get the right tire for your needs and it'll help your ride qulaity.

Like it was stated, tire size is what makes the difference.
19 inch wheels with a proper tire size will be fine.

...and expensive!

Lightweight wheels in that size definitely aren't cheap. Besides, OP didn't want to hurt ride quality. 17s with all season radials would work best if ride quality is the primary concern.
