Im going to change the MT fluid in my 02. I have the HLSD does that effect the overall fluid capacity or is it the same? im trying to make sure i buy enough fluid.

Don't know if it matters...but, I changed my MT Oil in my `03 6spd last summer. I used the AMS Oil synthetic, works great, a little on the pricey side however. I think I used just under 4 quarts, can't remember though.

It's about 2.5 quarts if I remember correctly.

I used Redline MTL 90 full synthetic.

When you refill make sure you are on a flat level surface and fill until it starts coming out the fill hole.

And don't forget some cardboard on the ground to catch that overflow.

Since we're on the subject, how often do you guys change your manual trans oil? I did it once at about 60k miles and I'm thinking of doing it again at 100k which should be within the next 6 months. Redline MT-90 btw.

can you verify that it is the best? and where can you get it?

i have the dread 3rd gear crunch and i heard the MT90 tends to lessen this a little. ill pay the extra $$$ to keep my car running i dont care

I used Redline mt 90 in my 6 speed I bought it from jeg's. You can get Amsoil from the local bumper to bumper auto parts stores in Louisville. I would say it is just as good.

I switched to Motul 75-85 and noticed improvement. Unfortunately 3rd still crunches, but it's better than before.
Definitely seems to "warm up" faster than last winter

i can only find a 75w/140, 80w/90 and a 75w/90 in Motul

I have run, in no particular order, amsoil, redline, mobil 1 synthetic, motul 80/90 and motul 75/85. The motul 75/85 has outperformed all the other oils, including the freezing cold. It shifts like butter all year round. Motul ran out of the 75/85 last year when I went for a lube change so my mechanic put in the 80/90 and it sucks right now.

oops.. ok my mistake, I thought it was 75/85 but the better stuff is 75/90 the 80/90 is in my car right now and I don't like it. BTW my mechanic races on the weekends in a sentra and he uses the 75/90 as well. sorry for the confusion.

Both of those oils are the same viscosity when warm.

Why don't you like the 80W-90, as opposed to the 75W-90?

the 80/90 does not shift as well in the cold, the 75/90 is much better in the sub zero temps. I'm talking -15 Celsius it is a night and day difference.

i think it get to 0 Fahrenheit at the coldest here at night which it hasnt done yet. but it does get hot as hell in the summer 90+ even in the 100's.

would you still recommend the 75/90 or could i go with the 80/90 since it doesnt get that cold?

I haven't driven with the 80/90 in the high heat yet, but as I said my mechanic races his sentra with the 75/90 and he beats the hell out of the tranny, no repairs to the tranny yet. So I would stick with the 75/90.
