I'm a couple months late to this thread but I just wanted to clear up a couple things.

1. The Cadillac CTS-V does indeed come available with a 6 speed manual.

2. The original 4DSC sticker on the 3rd gens was on the inside of the window, not the outside.

Minor stuff, but I like to correct wrong info when I see it. Amazingly enough, my wife's '91 still has one original 4DSC sticker on it to this day. Talk about uv resistant! One was either ruined or removed by a previous owner but the passenger side has survived mostly intact. I like the scotch tape holding the right side on. It's as if the previous owner saw the sticker coming loose and freaked out. "Oh no, not the 4DSC sticker!" I'm glad whoever it was took the time to put that piece of tape there. I still like the original design the best but I also like the modern version here as well too.

Your original image was HUGE, so I've edited your post to just include the link. The link is fine for most I imagine, but please resize it down if you want it to appear in the post. Thanks.

Guys, with normal postal times... I'm expecting the decals from erty67 in the mail very soon. I'm hoping to have photos up this weekend.

I'm guessing they should only be applied with temps are over freezing, and there's a window of 40 degree temps over the next couple days.

[edited for erty67's comments on temperature]
Obviously warm weather is better but cold's not a problem. Make sure the decal is warm, not frozen. As for the car, I'd let it run enough to let the inside warm up. Make sure the window is clean and dry. Install the decal with the transfer tape. As you take off the transfer tape after sticking it to the window, peel very slowly and watch for the decal lifting. It shouldn't, but with the cold it's nice to be cautious.

erty67's prototype decals arrived today. He sent me 2 in the altered Handle Gothic font, and one with the "DSC" letters in the Goodtimes font. The decals are 3 inches wide by 5/8 inch high, in flat silver, and mirrored for application on the inside window.

I'm hoping to find the time to install them this weekend. It might actually get up to 40 degrees on Sunday, which would be better. I don't want to do this when it's below freezing. However, even without putting them on the windows, I've a few opinions already:

  • The dimensions seem fine, and I'll have a solid opinion on that after they're installed.
  • I like the thickness of the Handel Gothic version, but not the distortion.
  • I like the continuity of the Goodtimes version, but it's a little thin.
  • Ed (erty67) is a pretty decent guy.

Between thickness over continuity, I'm more inclined to value continuity... but that's just me. That said, the vertical pipe in the Goodtimes version's character "4" is actually too thick. I'm going to come up with a new image to demonstrate what I mean, to try and thicken the Goodtimes font and get continuity on the character "4".

In the meantime, here's an annotated image of the stickers:

I've been watching this since the start, and I'm a little late to posting, but I really like the Goodtimes version. Once these go into production, I'm definitely in for some.

Good work, Rochester, erty. I'm really looking forward to seeing the final product.

Thanks, SLCPunk267.

OK, so I'm looking at the Goodtimes version, and as I said, it seems "thin". That, and the number "4" is inconsistantly thick compared to the rest. So I thickened the font; (which, btw, was a major PITA. Sometimes there are things I want to do with image editing that escape the simple solution.)

Anyway, here's the template that erty67 used for his Goodtimes cut:

And here's an updated version of that image. The "4" definitely has more balance now.

I'm not sure what to think, actually. I'm certainly open to input and ideas. And I still need to put the decals on the window to see before committing to an opinion.

I think the thicker one does look better, however I like the other font the best. It's all up to the rest of ya though. I'll make whatever the final decision is.

Why not come up with two or three options, kind of like with the org stickers? That way if someone decides they're not a huge fan of one font or style, they have another choice? Unless you guys are going for an everyone sports the same sticker kind of thing.

Sorry, I haven't read through the entire thread, so maybe this was covered and I missed it.

To be honest, they just wouldn't be popular enough to come up with multiple designs for sale. I may sell a dozen or two of these, compared a lot more of org stickers. Multiple designs would be an inventory nightmare as i would only sell one or two of certain designs, even though they all look similar. Last time I offered a "4DSC" style decal, I sold maybe a handful. I will be only making one design.

Really? Hmm. Either way, I see now that I need to fix the "4". Thanks for the perspective, Roy.

It's kind of interesting, all the design considerations that can be applied to something that seems so simple. Good fun.

So I'm off work today, about to chaperon my kid's field trip, and I just put the Goodtimes version on the drivers' side back window. My first impressions:
  • The silver color is perfect. Exactly what I was hoping for.
  • The decal seems to apply just fine to the glass. (Time will tell.)
  • My misgivings about the Goodtimes version being too thin... well, now that it's on the car, I'm swinging back to Roy's opinion. It looks just about right.
I applied it in 2 pieces: DSC and 4, so that I could cut the vertical pipe on the 4 for continuity. It looks good, but still think I should redo the "4" in the final graphic.

All in all, the first impression exceeded my expectations. Or rather, it didn't fulfill my misgivings. (You choose... half full, half empty.) It has a very OEM look to it, actually. And it doesn't grab your attention, it just accents things. Kind of like the way many 7th gen owners are surprised to discover they have 4DSC stickers, because they never noticed them before. (Silly 7th genners.)

I still need to apply the Handel Gothic version to the passenger side, and take pictures. But right now, I have to go.

Anyway... big happy. More later.

I can clean up the goodtimes one to blend the two fonts on the final decal. As for the "4", I'm not sure what your saying. Get pics up!!

Makes sense. I thought maybe you cut these as need be. But if you're doing them on an inventory basis, I can see where that would turn into a mess real quick.

Here's the graphic again, Ed, revised one last time. Notice the "4" has lots more balance now with the other characters, as well as with itself. Although I was toying with the concept of a thicker font, once I put the prototype on the car I realized it was just right, exactly the way it is.

The "DSC" letters are as-is representations of the Goodtime font in bold. The "4" originated as Handel-Gothic, and was edited to look like this.

Actual pictures on the car... coming soon. Hang on. I promise. (You guys will have to excuse the grungy appearance of my car. It's winter, and I live in Upstate NY, after all.)

Here are a couple of pics. In directly reflected light, the sticker stands right out. Outside of direct lighting, it blends into the shadows quite nicely.

I think it looks great. Although the "4" needs fixing, as I did in my previous post. And recall, the "4" here in these pictures was shaped a little with scissors.

I haven't put the Handel-Gothic version on the passenger side yet. But I'll be honest, at this point my preference leans entirely towards the Goodtimes version, now that I have both in my hands, and one on the car.

[edit: these pictures have been updated, and now reflect the final decal design.]

I got ya, man. Added to the distribution list in that post.

I figure to send everyone a PM when erty67 is ready.

This is so-o-o close to that pre-release decal Nissan was using for marketing in 2008. In fact, look at the "S" in both. I think the pre-release decal used the Goodtimes font, too, on the "SC", although the "D" is less wide maybe. And my altered "4" is a little lower and wider than whatever was used here, but otherwise these guys are a match.

I'm ready whenever. Is this the final answer? also, do you have that edited one in the same format as the others you sent?

Me too (obviously). 2 for the car immediately, and 2 in reserve pending damage from little-girl fingernails.

When the final decals are installed, I'll take some better photos.

Guys, feel free to do the same. I would love to see how it looks on your cars.

But I'm torn lol. White or silver? Interior or exterior. Magnum's or Troj- stop that.

I've got tints in the back that I'll be replacing (darker) real soon. I like the look on Rochester's car (subtle, clean, and yet pronounced all in one)
You guys did good.

What I like about the silver is that sometimes you look at the car, when there's little direct light, and you almost think, "Where's the decal?" Then you see it in the shadow, all stealthy and such.

And other times, in direct light, it pops right out all bold, with clean, contemporary lines. In that case, I'm particularly content to see it match my sheer silver paint.

That's what I want. You actually just made this easier for me lol. I'm going for the silver (even though I'm in the Gold Club I think it'll still go nicely)

You should try to sticky some placement guidelines b/c they sit nicely on your ride.
