What's the gear ratio/configuration of the 6-speeds?

For the 2002 3.5 6-speed, what's the gear config? Are they 4 under-drive, 2 over-drive? Or 5 under, 1 over?

While I'm axing newbie questions - about how much scratch should I plan on dropping on a short-throw aftermarket and are they an easy DIY installation?

thx

you literally just beat me to it. STS mod has worked for every 5.5 owner and they will all tell you its the same if not better than an aftermarket shifter

Here's a great site with tech specs on all Nissans. It gives you specs, TSBs, recalls, reviews and all sorts of info going back to 2001.
http://www.nissanhelp.com/Models/

I've got one of the first HP Autoworks short throws that came out about 4 years ago. There are a lot more choices out there now including the "free STS" mod. The install or mod isn't very hard. If you look through the "how to" stickies at the top of the 5th gen forum you'll find the info. It's worth it on these cars.

Search the 5th Gen forum for "STS" in the title.

Here's a good one: Free Sts........

The picture says it all:
