Torque converter problems? Strange RPM problem...

So I think my torque converter has gone bad. The symptoms are that the car doesn't launch well and seems to slip until about 1,600 rpms. It also sometimes "dies" at around 4-5 rpms when flooring it in third gear. (4 speed auto). It happened to me at Maxus, I was abouit to finish the 1/4 and the rpms and acceleration just died. It was as if I had taken my foor off the gas. I got back on it and it sped back up to 90 just to die again.

So I have a few questions, is it probably the torque converter?

Two what is the best replacement tq available? Should I go OEM or are there any performance ones out there?

Three, I did a quick Google search and saw some bull**** about unplugging the tq sensor? Is there any validity to this? I'm going to the track sunday so this "quick fix", if possible wouldn't be a bad idea. So Vadim get your *** in here and educate me =]
