Have the same issue, have only 1 with a transponder. Had a duplicate key made at Wallyworld and sure enough it is good for opening doors and trunk only.
If you buy your key online you might want to make sure that a locksmith will cut and program it for you before you buy it. Most of them will not do that unless the key is sold by them and I seriously doubt that a dealership will program a non-nissan key. I got a key from a locksmith, cut and programmed, for $53 about 8 months ago. Some Walmart and Home Depot stores sell, cut and program those transponder keys too. At least that is the case in this part of Florida.
For the key fob, as it was said above, just make sure that FCC number matches your existing fob. The programming can easily be done by you.
Can also check with your local Nissan dealer. Some are more fair than others. The one I use charged me $54 to cut and program 2 keys. He did not have any issues with me bringing in non-OEM keys (I got them at keyless-remotes.com)
It pays to do your homework first before you talk to a dealer. If you know what you are talking about, they will be less likely to try and rip you off.
You will also need to provide them with your original key. They need it to program your new one(s). Otherwise it gets MUCH more expensive.
buy the transponder key from ebay..... grab the yellow pages and call the stores where they can program the key after cuttin it... i do this and cost me around 50 dlls whit the key from ebay.... gl

A lot of Ace Hardware stores can program transponder keys. They'll cut and program a key there for you for $69.99. bring your own key, probably cheaper.
Get the blank transponder key from the internet (various sources, there are advertisers here, $20) take it to the locksmith for cutting and programming. BTW Walmart will cut the key for $2.00.
whatever you do dont buy the flip key off ebay!! I did and 2 months later the chip inside died and left me stranded. I was not happy lol
Are you talking about the flip ley and remote all in one like the audi's and VW's?
I was thinking of getting that off ebay...has this problem happened to anyone else?
Yeah got one from ebay but I haven't programmed it yet. Its a ilco key with transponder chip.
I've been checking every keyplace, locksmith to get it programmed, but when I mention my year and car, they can't do it for some reason(i forget what). The dealership will do it, but its $50 bucks no matter what, even it won't work(makes sense, but $50 isn't worth the gamble, maybe until I go back to work in a couple of weeks).
EDIT: If anyone knows anyplace where I can get it programmed in Hamilton or Toronto, Ontario please tell me!!

I just purchased a transponder key of fleabay for $13 and I heard the Batteries+ store near me does the programming. Will call to ask how much. Or else will do a search for a cheaper option for programming.
Some Home Depots make the copy of transponder keys as long as you have the original. When I needed a key with a transponder for my remote starter I went to home depot and got one for 80 bucks.
Have you checked with any Nissan dealers near you? It only cost me $54 to have keys cut and programed, no matter how many blanks I had. You may be able to save a few $$.
Oh yes I do have an appointment with a friend who works for a Nissan dealer. Was just passing by HD tonight, might as well ask if they do it and how much.
