shifting issues 01 max

Hey guys, my wifes 01 max(automatic) is giving some trouble and i was wondering if anyone can shed some light on the issue... this doesnt happen all the time but after driving the car for a bit it will start to rev and not change gears at all...i would have to pull over and turn off and on to get it to go again..i wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else...and if so is it alot of $$$$ or a simple fix....any help is appreciated thanks.

Happened to me too. After a long drive on the freeway and going back to local where it would shift a lot, the problem would occur. I took my car to a few mechanics and they told me I have to rebuild the tranny, which I did. Same thing happened after it was rebuilt, so they changed out the speed sensor and the solenoid pack which seems to fix the problem for now...
So... -maybe- try to change the sensor and the solenoid first since it would be a lot cheaper than rebuilding the tranny.

+ I had the same problems. Its definitely a sensor problem, sadly my knowledge of how the tranny works electrically is too limited. From what I understand it senses a failure a basically locks itself to avoid damage.

Its called a revolution speed sensor. Part costs about $125 shipped, from DaveB. Takes about 20 minutes to install from start to finish and is located under the drivers side wheel well, behind the plastic panels, on the rear of the tranny block.

ok i am having the EXACT same problem. i found that if you floor it, it will shift to the next gear.

I ran OBD on it and it gave me a VSS code...
so should i change the revolution speed sensor or the speed sensor?

also at random my car just wouldn't start today... power and everything works, but i dont hear a starter clicking either.

could this revolutionary\speed sensor problem cause my car to not start? i've been dealing with this shifting problem for a few months now but the car not starting just started today.

sorry for thread hijack
