The connection for the ECU

Can that be replaced? I believe mine is bad because when I go to connect my code reader it says connection is failed but I connect it to a different car it reads the codes fine. Is it a way to remove the DLC and replace it with another?

you mean the obd2 port? If the connection to the ecu was bad you would not be able to run some functions of the car.

well I have a ses light on my 02 max, I went to plug in my scanner and it read that it wasnt able to connect to the data link (it kept searching for the protocal and couldnt find it). I tried it on my 96 bonneville (obd II) and it read it fine. Thats why im thinking the port is messed up

Make sure your scanner can interface with ISO9141 protocol. Most should but some scanners don't do all protocols. Try it on another Maxima if you can....or maybe just another Nissan.

Chrysler + European + most Asian = ISO9141
GM + light trucks: SAE J1850 VPW
Ford: SAE J1850 PWM

Take it to an advanced auto and see if they can read your codes, that should help give you an answer as to where the problem lies

Werd, advanced gives you a print out of the code number and description of the issue. Junkozone gives you a piece of paper that's more suited to wipe your bung hole with.

went to the autozone and they were able to pull the code with no problem. I put the scanner on my 96 bonneville and it worked fine, but on the maxima it doesnt connect. When I connect it to the maxima the screen on the scanner goes like "searching protocal" then it switches from ISOXXXX, CAD, WMPXXXX, etc etc then it says DLC connection failure or something to that nature. The key is turned also when this is done. This thing worked on my car the first time I used it but ever since its a no go. I purchased this thing from ebay for $50
