MAF question

ok so currently im going through some MAF problems..my stock one was on its way out so i ordered a new one from ebay for $100... when i got it i opened the box and noticed it looked like a 3.5 MAF... but i put it in anyway. the car ran great for about 3 weeks, then it started to make the car sputter so i would have to unplug it and blow in it or kinda tap the MAF connector then it would run fine... so i decided to put my old one back in and that completly stopped working the car would start but amost have a like a rev limiter at about 2700 rpm.... and if i would try and put the peadal to the floor the car would pop through the air filter and just about stall... so i put the other one back in and it is acting up some but not all the time..

ok so my question is does anyone make a aftermarket performance MAF of can i use one from another car? some help would be greatly appreciated thanks

What is the part number on the original maf housing? what is the part number on the new maf housing. If they are different you need to go to a dealership and reflash the ECU for the new updated maf.

i got mine for my 2000 from advanced auto parts, works great. do you run a aftermarket air cleaner also? if you do you need ta make sure its not an oiled filter. the airflow draws the oil out and it coats the maf causing a bad reading.

You do when you possibly have changed a major part of the engine, and the dealer that sold you one should have asked you first for the numbers on your original old one.

I know if you had called Dave B. Southpoint Nissan TX 888-254-6060 as it was suggested to you, he would have straight out asked you for the these numbers to ensure you get a proper fit and match for you system.

if the MAF you replaced is the original one from the day you bought the car, and you went out and bought a brand spanking new one, then yes you have to go to the dealership because the ECU does not know how to read the signal from the MAF. Most dealerships will charge you either 1/2 or 1 full hour of labor. Not sure what the going rate is in your area.

I recently replaced my MAF after getting a P0505 code and the power increase is quite note worthy. It's a bit like getting new glasses and noticing that the trees have leaves. I forgot just how much pep my Max used to have. Now if I can just get the idle adjusted properly. The idle air volume procedure isn't working for me.

did you just randomly changed em??? im having some sputtering issues and i dont think its my MAF either... i changed my plugs to NGK laser platinum and it still sputtered, changed em at work today in the parking lot to NGK platinums and it still sputters... i cleaned my MAF and yet it still sputter... I get a P0300 code, Checked all my coils and they are fine... my question to you is, did yours sputter throughout the whole RPM range??? or was it a certain RPMs???

try this

it sounds like you made need new 02 sensors my car had similar problems. I replaced the maf and it ran much beter but not perfect so i replaced both bank 1 and bank2 02 sensors haven't had any problems since. most likely the problem is caused by dirty 02 sensors picking up on exhaust being to oxygen rich or "too lean" try getting new 02 sensors this should fix the problem.
