Belt issues

Ok, so i changed my serpentine belt about 6 months ago roughly, and i happen to be looking under my hood today and notice about 8 inches of the "new" belt is missing about an eighth inch of it. What would cause this? Misplacement on the pulleys? a bad pulley? to much tension on the belt causing it to burn? Please help so when i do this again i dont waste money

check to see if anything looks like it been worn out by the belt touching it. when the engine is running, does it look like the belt is wobling? could be a bad belt also. may not have been put on the pulley properly. have to make sure that it goes into the groves(you probably did but just making sure).
