Fan Noise

I get a loud noise from my fans when they come on. It sounds like they are rubbing against something. They both run but there is something noticeably wrong as if one of the blades were broken. The assembly shakes a little bit when they are running. There are no over-heating problems just the noise from the fan. what could the problem be?

Well if you think they're rubbing on something, have you checked for that? Rotated them by hand?

It's going to shake a bit, that's just in the nature of spinning a large mass of plastic that quickly.

I found one of the fansis somewhat loose. I can move it back and forth as if it were spring loaded. I have unplugged the faulty fan and the noise is gone.Do I have to change the whole fan shroud or is it possible to change the broken fan blade?

Oh man, sounds exactly what I went through. Fan could be moved back & forth (towards/away from engine). Fan is loud, next you'll notice a screeching sound almost like a loose pulley, then you'll get tapping with violent shaking.

I did the same thing...unplugged that fan. Car didn't overheat, but granted temps were under 60. Then it started overheating in traffic when temps started to raise. Really all you have to do is replace the fan motor. But I would find motors for like 60 bucks and then all new fans+shroud for 80-90 bucks as a complete package. An extra 20 for an all new assembly ain't that bad & I think is worth the investment in the long run.
