Opinions on a possible sale of a 02 blk/blk 6 spd/nav with blown motor
Hey guys....wanted to get a few opinions on the possible sale of my maxima. It's an 02 6 speed. Black on black with Navi. It has new tokico blues with Tein S springs just installed, new clutch, and 350z wheels wrapped with Toyos.
JUST BLEW THE MOTOR. Had it for close to a year now, and bought from up north. Had a feeling that the motor was bad from the get go after the purchase, but nonetheless, i bought the car sight unseen anyway because i had to have black on black 6 speed. Car is in great shape over all. Just considering selling because the whole car purchase and blown motor has become a thorn in my side with the wifey. So regardless if i fix it, it's become bad ju-ju for our relationship.
So, I can fix or sell as is.....is where i'm at. I can find a longblock ofcourse and have my buddy help me install it. My dilemma is that either way i'm going to get rid of it and get a truck.
So my question is (and i'll post pics by this weekend) how much do you think it's worth in it's current state? How much do you think I can sell it as is, vs going through the hassle of fixing?
Anyone and everyone's opinions are appreciated....
how many miles are on the body? i would fix it and try to sell it, because you have a rare car blk/blk 6 speed w/ navi.... extremely extremely hard to find you would probably get a nice penny for it. rather than the hassle of parting it out.
Buy new lower milage motor for around $600, drop it in for $600 and call it a day!

Rare car you got there bud. I would also get rid of the wife or girlfriend, sounds like too much of a problem/hassle. What kind of man cant value investments he loves?

Depending on the overall condition a used engine/installation will be worth the investment compared to selling the car with a blown motor.
Costs, however, can rise rapidly when doing a replacement e.g. installation of a new clutch assembly and other items possible. If the car isn't drivable, another problem, as a potential buyer wouldn't know, or couldn’t test the various accessories/equipment.
Looks like $800 will buy you a nice 2002 engine with 25,000 miles in Kissimmee. If you can't do the work yourself, installation is another headache.
I'm with everyone else, replace the motor and drive it till the wheels go square. Beats the hell out of a monthly payment. From reading what has been replaced (clutch), it would be a simple take out and replace. Could be accomplished in a weekend.

Ouch. Get rid of the wife?? That's Pretty harsh. Though they have a point.
I say, just blame her for blowing the motor and fix it.
Unless you're buying a Dodge with a Hemi, you're really gonna miss a Max with a 6 SP.
Not to mention the bad gas mileage.
I vote fix it and keep it. Tell the wife that $1k and the car is good as new is way better than starting with an unknown. And maybe a bigger payment.

No doubt....i agree. The post at the bottom of the page kind of goes over what i've done to it so far and it just seems that it's always needed things here and there since i bought it sight unseen. You mentioned $800 bucks for a 25K mile motor in Kissimmee??? Would you help a brotha out and let me know how I can get in touch with that deal by chance? I would REALLY appreciate it. Seems that most $800 motors have atleast 85K miles from what i've seen.

Approx 105K on the body. I didn't realize that blk/blk 6 speeds are that rare. Only thing is that it probably needs paint soon. Person who originally owned it didn't do a good job with the exterior. I bought the car sight unseen and put money in the suspension/tires/rims/clutch. So thus having to continue to drop cash in it is seemingly become a sore subject with the wifey. I do really appreciate your opinion!

The less money thing will work. Trust me.
LOL true....What i didn't mention is that i already have a Yamaha R1, so my interests are dropping money in the bike. So now that i have a Max, it's hard to have 2 hobbies and justify modding the hell out of both in this economy. I'll still blame the wifey on the motor though, and try to dodge the knives that she may throw my way
