also these rotors are once and a half thicker than 5.5 gen. Way better for heat dissipation as well. Took these rotors to track and got them crazy hot lapping and no vibration what so ever with |Hawk HPS pads. "Before after 3 months on the rotor it would start vibrating and then end of the year santa gave me new discs each year.

Great write-up! How much would the rear rotor/caliper change help the overall braking? Not needed, or do when you can?

anyone do any actual tests on braking improvements? How much extra weight do the larger parts add?

braking is 30% better i would say with hawk hps front and back installed at the same time, especially while braking on the highway.
I did not feel any difference in the extra added weight

your stock brake lines are fine, its pretty much a direct swap, you'll need calipers and brackets, rotors, and pads.

See post #39 for my input on this mod...

what kind of rotors do you have there... i have been looking all over for a decent price on rotors with the center black hub area coated black like those.
Thanks.

Hey guys,

I am looking to do this upgrade, but I dont know if my wheels will clear them. I have the 05-06 altima SE 5-spoke wheels and it looks like there will be enough space but I am not sure.

Since I know that the 02-03 SE wheels will fit, I was wondering if someone with the 02-03 SE stock maxima wheels and stock 5.5 brakes would measure the amount of clearance between the caliper and the spokes, and also the clearance between the caliper and the inside of the rim.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Rather than asking someone to measure the gap, it may be better to ask someone to measure the inside diameter of the SE wheels and then compare to yours.

Or just do it the more efficient way, what is the offset on the Altima wheels?

That would work from one clearance dimension, but I think the more restrictive dimension is between the caliper and the spokes.

Its 45 which I believe is the same as both the 00-01 and 02-03 SE stockers (note that the 02-03 clear but the 00-01 does not). But the shape of the spokes on my wheels are a bit different.

To everyone who got used Junk Yard Calipers -
How far did you go with cleaning them? Did you rebuild them? Did you buy new seals etc?

Mine are pretty rough... I think I need to rebuild them.

i cleaned mine pretty well, i took brake cleaner, brillo pads, wire brush, and sandpaper to them, then applied the G2 caliper paint. Mine were in great shape, no need for a rebuild.

Racing Brake is seriously considering offering their lightweight 2pc rotors for this application (same as for the 12.6" equipped Gs/Zs).

When bleeding the brake system, aren't you supposed to start with the furthest caliper from the reservoir? As in start with RR, RL, FR and finish with FL?

Finally, the 6th gen calipers are the 2004 to 2006 model maximas?

Q: any break lines or adapters needed???
A: your stock brake lines are fine, its pretty much a direct swap

I know this have already been answered but I just order Goodridge SS brake line for my 03 and it was a different part number so my question is why do they sell different brake line for 04? Is it just for the middle part that suppose to be hold ?

the only thing the different between 5 or 5.5th gens and 6 gens is the back suspension design. the front ones are direct swap

I thought the 2000-2001 wheels were different from the 2002-2003.

Nice Upgrade.
One question though since this is now on my list for the spring.
How the hell did you get the calipers so clean? Sand by hand?

The rebuild kit is cheap enough, be better off rebuilding them and while they are taken apart, have them sandblasted and powder coated. I had them on my max once, sold off the BBK when i needed the $$$

Im looking into doing it again.

Do we need the Calipers before or after 5/2004?

when there is a direct and CHEAP bolt on bbk upgrade like this...

Thanks maxima forums!

Inexpensive rebuilt semi-loaded calipers find

Hi,
Thought I'd share something I came across recently on Amazon.com .
I've had the 6th gen bbk upgrade on my list of possible upgrades for awhile, and regularly check around to see if I come across a deal on calipers.
I came across these just recently, and placed an order. The price was less than $42 each when I ordered them, and it's now slightly over $46. No core charge, and includes shipping.
Undercar Express 10-7182S and 10-7183S , which is for a semi-loaded caliper (http://www.ucx.com).

that site doesn't load, but i checked them out on amazon.com and they are there, they don't show any pictures so can you snap some pics of how the calipers look when you get them? $46 is cheap with no cores is great.

Will do. They were delivered to my upstate NY mailing address yesterday, will pickup later this week. I think the price is wrong and they forgot to include $ for core.
edit-picked them up today . They are complete, and rebuilt with new parts including piston. The link I posted (works for me) is for Undercar Express, which is the company that rebuilds the calipers. I think Amazon made an error on the item and forgot to include the core charge, but whatever the reason I'm happy to have gotten these at such a great price.

Bumping this up from the dead! But does anyone know if this kit will clear the 350z 17" base dimpled wheels? I'm about to snag a set for a good deal, but I'm not sure if it'll clear. thanks

Thanks for bumping it, this got added to my to-do list. Still had no confirmation of whether this would clear the I35 non-sport 17" wheels
