Anyone tried LED headlight bulbs?

Ya I know there's a million threads about lighting this and lighting that but I never found anything on something like these. I just put in some black housing headlights for my black 01 (not goofy ebay projectores or angel eyes....just all black) and some HID's for the headlights but I have done the fog re-wire so I can run em with my parking lights so I thought I would like to have some clean and bright corner bulbs....These looked real clean from what I saw and wondered if these were even available or if anyone's tried using them yet...And yes I know that LED's are available but haven't seen these before...Could be wrong though....Any experience?

Look real white and almost HID here in this civic's day time running lights..

I don't think the technology is there yet for them to have decent enough output. I would like to see output though.

Ya the article where I found those pics at did mention that the light output was good put for not for directional light, cause these would be an awesome substitute for fog lights if you didn't want to go HID but using these for the corner lights or reverse lights would probably be fine I would think....Great color though..

They're fine for DRL. But not for night driving. The lumens of LEDs aren't high enough. In other words, they might look bright, but they don't project out very far. If you're going to do just DRL, you'll be perfectly fine, and yes, they match regular HIDs well for that.

As for normal headlights, stick to HIDs or halogens. You can, however, turn your high beams into city lights with those LEDs if you'd like.

And yes, they do make LEDs in all sizes for headlights now.

This is the LED helmet light I have (I road bike). Single LED, puts out 180 lumens of light and you can see the projection is quite good. The main problem with LEDs is they tend to have a hot spot in the center where the light is brighter.

^ That's coming directly out of the exposed filament, though, right? I wonder how an LED would do with a glare guard in the way...

There is a lens that is in front of the light, not sure how it is configured to affect how the light comes out though.

I'd think that it'd be some kind of convex lens in order to spread the light in a wider pattern. But that's just working from basic physics.

It may look bright when you're shining it into the distance, but have you actually measured the distance from the LED that the light shines? That'd be my concern. I've seen a lot of LEDs that are bright as hell up close (hence interior LED conversions), but past about 10', they're not much use. I would think that would become even worse with a glare guard in the way.

The end of the light beam in that picture is at least 100 feet away and is bright enough that when I am riding on a road with lights, my light is still illuminating the street beyond what the street lights put out. There are LED bike lights that put out nearly 1000 lumens.

Thanks for the quick feedback guys... I agree that the light although looks very crisp and bright probably wouln't serve as the best directional light. My original use again for them would be to have in the 01 blinker/parking lights so that when I run the fogs and corners that they would appear to have like the GMC trucks with the extremely bright and orange parking lights plus with black housing lights and a 6000k HID headlight I think it would have a good color scheme... Still think however they would be cool for the fogs if you didn't plan on using them for vision purposes at least....

I just got some new LEDs for my parking lights. They are WAY more bright and crisp then the old polarg bulbs. Here's a couple pics for anyone interested in seeing what they look like.

What brand are those LEDs? I got some that were supposed to be bright but they really aren't. They do match the HIDs pretty good though.

My fault... here you go man:
http://autolumination.com/194.htm

I got the white ones...

These won't fit in the license plate bulb casing. The bulbs are too long. Im not sure if theyll work for the side markers or not either. Those pics I posted still have the polarg bulbs in em.

For parking lights... these are the best I've been able to find.

Now on to HID fogs!

LED clearance / sidemarker bulbs, I've never had good luck with. They burn out or start to flicker.

LED headlight/fog light bulbs are worthless at this point. The lumen output is NOWHERE near what even a halogen should be. Strictly for show. Stick to HIDs for now.

LEDs might be good for the turn signal and parking lights, but nothing else. LEDs will never have the output of HIDs, no matter how many you put together. I could be wrong...

I need a new running light above the orange lense. Are ya'll saying just get the 194 for color matching the HID's from autolumination? Thats where I just got my side marker bulbs. I have 2 white side marker bulbs in the car(not sure if they're 94's) that were extra, im hoping these will fit the running light. I hope im talking about the same thing ya'll are.

HID for the running light? wouldnt you just need to splice something in from a balast? I could be totally wrong here as well. My next project is the headlights...retro fit projectors/rings/angel eyes/clearing out lenses etc.

Yeah these LEDs work pretty well for matching up the color of the HIDs. They look a lot better than the stock bulbs and after market polarg bulbs or whatever in my opinion.

It always killed me to look at my headlights at night and see that parking light looking dull and off color so i tried these and liked the result.

I dunno about HIDs for the parking lights... dont think a xenon bulb will fit.

Also I'd never use LEDs to replace the HID bulbs. My fog lights will be legit HID conversion... H3c 6000K Kit

These ones there look like they are the an actual foglight assembly...I've seen these on ebay I think. Not sure from the picture but It wouldn't look bad if you spaced em out and mounted them somewhere behind the grill so you coudn't see them unless they were on...I would still like to see a good set of LED H3 bulbs that would put out good color and some directional light so we could find more uses for LED's...Kinda limited right now...

Anyone with pics using LED's for an 00-01 blinkers/turn signals? And I've seen the LED's in amber in the fogs which puts out a bright light but not directional at all so not much usable light but it looks real clean...Amber in the turn signals, amber in the fogs, amber on the bumper lights...Anyone else using LED's for the fogs with pics?

I have white LED foglights on my 98 Maxima. The color looks about 6000k but of course LEDs are only for show. You can't use them to see. Here's a pic of them. I also have white LED bumper lights and amber LED corner lights::

I also have some H3 36 SMT LEDs for my foglight bulbs. They look great, but are only for show. There's just no way an LED can be functional as a headlight bulb no matter what kind it is. I have LEDs as my parking lights and reverse lights and fog bulbs and I love them. Just for show though. Not night driving functionality (headlight bulbs)

LED's are cool to look at...but not cool to see with...at least in a headlight sense! Give the industry a few yrs and it will be OEM standard on everything not just a few...Q45's , 00-on I30's
