or throw out bearing best bet is to get the trans out and replace all the bearings

nope the noise you wrote about is most likely either the throw out bearing or input shaft bearing, i believe there are a total of 3-4 bearings, best would be to drop the trans and take a look at it, but if one of those is bad its best to replace them all and be done with it

sounds like tranny bearings are shot.

If sound is heard when the clutch pedal is down, then it would be the throw out bearing. All the load is on the bearing and the tranny input is not connected to the engine.

If noise is heard when the clutch pedal is up, then it will be the tranny. The engine and tranny are connected the throwout bearing is just sitting there with no load. The tranny input shaft and main shaft will be spinning.

You need to tear the tranny apart and do a rebuild. An internal bearing and seal kit will run you anywhere from $160 to $250 depending on where you go and buy it from (non Nissan parts are needed, bearings are bearings, you go to Nissan it will probably be bearings made by the major bearing company but cost 4x as much).

There are 6 bearings and 4 seals in the bearing/seal kit. Two input shaft bearings (front/rear or left/right bearings), two mainshaft bearings (front/rear or left/right) and two differential bearings (left/right). Four Seals--an input shaft seal, shifter seal, left and right axle seals. If your syncros are bad, you can buy the rebuild kit with syncros (for an additional $200-$250) The bearing/seal kits comes with bearings and races, where applicable but do not include any necessary shims, so you are lucky, you need to take away shims and not need shims for the new bearings.
