The last time Navi ashtray mod. (Clear pictures)

I have has multiple emails on the navi install on my 2003 maxima via taking out the ashtray.

the Navigation Model is the Magellan Maestro.
It matches the TE edition perfect as you can see it is also silver and black just like most interiors in the SE family.

All I did was run the power from the rear socket spliced it in, then cut a small hole in the side of the ashtray holding container.

Taking out the ashtray was simple you just unscrew the center screw in the middle of the ashtray, then pop the whole shifter cover off (holds ashtray) and there will be 4 screws that hold it in place, take those out and the ashtray box will come off with ease.

there are tabs on the side of the ashtray that will allow you to take the slider off with ease, then just go ahead and cut the side of the case with a warm knife, and slide the power connector through.

The camera makes it look so bad lol, It looks so much better in person. the gap is not that large when you center it. And it is **** eyed in this pic due to me moving it to show the power wire. usually it is straight on.

camera has too many mega pix it makes everything look bad... especially if you have a nick or scrape on the car. the mod really does look great. Im not the type to make things look ****ty. the angle I took it at is head on usually you are looking at it from a top view and you dont see the gap.

here are sh!tty pictures.

I like it good job, I only use my ashtray for change or loose screws anyway. So gives me a good idea

As cool as that looks and as integrated (cheaply) as possible for a stand alone nav unit can get, having it that low can't be safe for driving. My nav unit replaces the radio and I find that low enough. 2 cts.

It is low, yes but if you have the address already in it , it yells at you in whatever voice you want, so in the end you don't have to look down. I like it for the restaurant locator, say you are somewhere you normally don't drive you just click find closest location of whatever type of food and you are on your way.

If it's a 3G iPhone, Turn by Turn has been available for free.

iPhone turn by turn is free. I'm looking to do something custom (spinning dock) where the radio sits. Right now everything is stock and my 680 garmin sits atop of the ac vents on the flat part. Wire is run behind and through the arm rest part of the car to the rear av. Sorry to get off topic.

To the person hardwiring the garmin how do you do that? Can you do it off of the power rear view mirror. I've been always wondering/inquirying about this.

Thanks

It actually fits very snug does not move unless you force it to.

Lol Its cool Tippy

You would need to run the power from the fuse box and run the wires through the driver pillar then tucked under the roof carpet..

Thanks

Looks good. If someone really cared, it would be easy to make a little ABS plastic frame for that thing and really clean it up. Nice idea though, I like it.

I didnt even go last night. I had a hangover from the night before but I didnt expect it to last till the following night! lol

We always meet up on wednesday nights at the sonic on lakeworth just east of jog by the way. The hooters meet used to go on all the time but got shut down a few months ago. It's just getting started again.

I have it plugged into the back of the gps and the cord is fed through a slight gap between the ashtray and left side of the gps. It's snug but will fall on hard acceleration. I'm thinkin velcro maybe to hold it in there and it's easy to switch between cars.
