Tranny replacement quote (NY)

I put this in the 5th gen forum because labor times may be different for 4th or 6th gens.... move it if you need to tho.

I'm being quoted $550 to replace my tranny in my '00 GXE by the nearest transmission specialist joint... that's just for labor.

I have a good tranny and torque convertor to throw in (thx nsnrider).

Is this an off-the-wall quote?

A family friend who works with Asian automobiles spoke in disapproval of this quote, and said it was on the high side.

Also, despite the fact that I have a good tranny and TC, what other parts are bound to need replacing?

It is seems a little high but that might if the book says 8 hours of labor, then it really isn't considering most shops charge around $75 an hour.
