1 1/4 inch hole bit makes it nice and clean. I also removed the scoop/ram intake tubing-sounds very nice, even at half throttle.
Liked it so much i did the wifey's too - what do you think?
Supposedly, 4 holes is the optimum. Someone did testing by drilling all those holes and then plugging them up a few at a time. 4 holes worked the best for some reason.
I did mine like that with 4 holes + OSCAI.
Definitely gives my car a really nice growl without being obnoxiously loud.

hey nissandrvr98, I hope those orion v2's are working out awesomely for ya I love mine. Anyway, can you tell a difference in power with this done? what does it sound like. I'm seriously considering doing it, but I don't really want to do anything irreversible if i'm not going to like it. are there any disadvantages?
also..a few years ago..someone got a dyno and proved slight gains with this over stock IIRC,...

that was me....and the gains were "slight" indeed (~2whp) with 4 holes, and about 1whp with all 8 holes open. I had it set up so I could have the holes all open, partially open, and completely closed. There wasn't much difference between the three on the dyno...the difference could just as easily been a standard margin of error on a dyno.
Keep in mind I also had a Cattman ypipe and Frankencar catback...so the extra intake flow was worth more than it might be on a stock exhaust...

love the comments/feedback.
Like i said before..no doubt its been done-i've only had my 5.5gen for 2 months now and the wifes for about 2 years or so but she NEVER lets me play around on her car.
In terms of sound, i really enjoy it, not as obvious as the hanger mod, rather a little more mature if that makes sense. The nice thing is, it keeps the filter in place w/o worry and doesnt affect anything else. Once i get my exhaust done this spring ill be in good shape.
jowo-orion v2's are bada$$-see here for pics of the install/finished product.

A lot of peopl have used the coat hanger for the GAB because we did not want to chop up that filter holder, which currently runs 77$ from courtesy parts, if you ever need to replace it for any reason. Rather use a free coat hanger (who doesn't have a few extra hangers laying around), than cut holes in that holder.
But that is with a GAB with the entire top open, either via coathanger or hacksaw, lol.
I have mine completely open using the coathanger version. The sound is great, and my car feels more responsive and pulls harder when i need to gas it. (but that just butt-dyno). The good thing is that the coat hanger version is free and its completely reversable without having to buy an new filter holder/bracket.
I do quite a bit of motorcycle and ATV riding and airbox mods similar to this are quite common. one product that may aid in keeping clean air coming in with this application are air filter vents (one variation http://www.motoworldracing.com/uni-filter-airvents.html ). I think there are a few other brands out there. some guys riding report marginal fitment with them, meaning they don't always fit real tight and may pop out or require some adhesive.
I just picked up an 03 SE and was just trolling through all the different mods people are doing. How noticeable is the sound/responsiveness with a few holes punched in the airbox? thoughts on if this is really worth doing?
Definitely worth doing. Give a nice growl, especially above 4000 rpm without being obnoxiously loud. You may feel a bit more pull, mostly at higher rpms where the extra air flow helps lean out the too rich high rpm tuning our cars have stock.
scottwax said it...around 4k rpms it roars to life and pulls hard to redline for me. well worth it
Just a comment, and this is not directed at you personally, but just the comment.
Many people say this because when you have an aftermarket intake or GAB, you are more likely to stomp on it past 4k rpms than if you had a stock intake. The VIAs kicks in at 3600 rpms, opening the power valve to effectively shorten the intake manifold runners, so that's a big reason for the "roar" that everyone is claiming. An intake definitely amplifies this sound and you are feeding more air into the manifold, but even stock, you will hear it open up at 3600+ rpms.
Once again, I'm not bashing anything (I have a GAB and my dyno results aren't bad at all), just wanted people to be aware is all.

I guess now we'll start seeing "my gas mileage sucks after my GAB mod" threads about once a week.
I've been a grandpa with the car ever since I bought it, but after the GAB, I'm addicted to the sound it makes at higher RPM. I find myself running out second gear quite often just so I can hear it. It doesn't help that my 2yr old has caught on and keeps telling me to "make it grow da-dee!!"

I was going to do the drilled GAB very soon, but after reading this I am second guessing because if I hardly ever go over 3600 rpm. Does this mod make any noticable difference (sound or power +/-) below the 3600 rpm?
I have heard that there is an initial loss of low end, but once the car adjusts it returns.
I will be doing this mod as soon as the weather breaks up here. How long will it take to adjust (learn) and how should i drive the car during this period? Normal, hard, normal with some WOT in there?

Agreed..while we're under $2/gal i gonna keep it on the floor
..and timbit. there isnt any adjustment necessary-the MAF/ecu will adjust appropriately-you just press the accelerator and enjoy
Thanks. How long until it fully adjusts? Tank of gas? So just drive normally? It sounds like 4 holes in best, any other opinions before I go for it? I have a K&N drop in already. Again, thanks. Been an Accord guy until now, loving the new ride.
^True CAI that goes in the fender is probably better but they are really hard to find (I was searching for one myself). GAB is really good tho, its free and sounds amazing.
