I have heard that there is an initial loss of low end, but once the car adjusts it returns.
To answer the question, there isn't really a noticeable loss, IMO, but I'm sure that there is theoretically.

Besides, if you're never going to go over 3600 rpms, it doesn't matter either way does it? Because obviously you're not planning on getting anywhere quickly.

Doubt there would be a noticeable performance gain.

Good point

Thanks for the response. I guess I was just thinking that a reduction in power = reduction in efficiency = possible reduction in gas mileage. But since you seem to think it would be negligible, i wont worry about it.

I got an extra filter holder for $20. So I will try it out and if i dont like it, i can just switch it back.

Thanks.

GAB = Ghetto Air Box

The last thing I would put on a 95 automatic is a $300 intake. Thats just me though. Do the GAB and use the $300 for something useful.

Just curious as to what others have done with the stock scoop after the GAB...I would think that leaving it on would somewhat prevent hotter air flowing next to the engine from entering the intake, but maybe removing it would provide even better airflow...

Thoughts?

its your preference mannetti-mines off, wifes is on. mine sounds better but the scoop surely allows for cooler air at speed.

Did you just tape and tuck away the scoop sensor?

I did the GAB a while ago, but during the summer the added heat soak gets pretty bad. It still sounds good though

Did the GAB...ended up going with a SRI (short ram intake) basically a cone filter attached to the MAF, removed the sensor out of the scoop and zip-tied it off close to the filter. The sensor pops out of the scoop with the help of a flat head screw driver....just make sure you are pushing on the rubber around the sensor (you'll see what I'm talking about once you get into it). I can't see how the scoop is functional with that big *** hole at the bottom of it.

Yea I was thinking the same thing. Wonder if there would be any effect if kept the scoop and I blocked off the hole

I also did the GAB and i felt a power increase, but then I received the CAI RD Series as a christmast gift from my dad and tried it on. The power is great especially when you accelerate at a high rpm.

I still dont like the fact that the filter is located near the engine because it still sucks in some of the heat from the engine.

Could anyone have a direction as to how to do GAB? I can't seem to find any instructions on this forum. I found some links but they are all too old, and the links are not available.
Thanks

Thanks for the link. I actually found it just before you posted it. One question, I read somewhere that IRIsh had a two scoop setup, but I have no idea what it looks like or how he got it done. Do you know where or how he did it?

Must be talking about a true cold air intake? Irish (http://forums.maxima.org/member.php?u=24430) is still on here, he just drives a Subaru now..... You basically cut a hole in your fender well and mount the scoop in there I believe.

I know CAI and I've seen it done by cutting holes in the fender well. I was talking about one of the setup where it was still GAB but he mentioned two scoops...... let me see if I can find the post.

I have seen those threads, and they are not what I was looking for. They are cool but require too much tinkering and time that I don't have. I was just wondering if anyone has ever done a GAB that had an extra scoop on the bottom of the snorkel?
