so I was searching but I didn't find anything on it anymore. Don is not making his VB mods anymore and what about maximumtuning.net? Sry for kind of threadjacking, but it is relevant to VB mods so...
he doesnt make vb mods anymore and max tuning doesnt do them anymore either.
Thanks for the link to summit racing, i think im going to get this done this summer. i just unplugged my drop resistor yesterday and it feels like a completely different car... from what i remember trying to drop my valve body a few years ago, there was a bolt that i couldn't get undone and it kept spinning. Does anyone know what i'm talking about?
Yes I know exactly what you're talking about. This is the same bolt that wouldn't allow me to clean my tranny screen when doing a flush. Lots of people have had the same issue with that bolt...

None that I could find, it just kept turning. At the time I found a few threads that talked about it, but I couldn't find a real solution from any of those threads. I ended up just giving up...the screen didn't look that dirty anyways.
just ordered my kit from summit, it's backordered and i will be receiving it on the 20th. I'll post up the directions that are included when i get it...
donkeyman, you do not need to remove the tranny just the oil pan.
The kit does not come with video instructions.
The 1-2 shift on the hd kit is felt, then the rest are just super fast at partial throttle. With full throttle, shifts chirp the wheels in every gear, even with my lsd tranny.
The drop mod is nothing like the hd kit from transgo, with the hd kit, shifts are consistent and controlled not like the drop mod which requires the tranny to warm up first and then has clunky shifts as it just raises the fluid pressure. With the hd kits you improve flow as well as pressure by opening up passages and changing a valve. More flow also means a cooler tranny under stress.
I have built 2 maxima valve bodys and helped with another on an altima (they are the same by the way.) It is not easy but its worth it as they completely change the feel of the car.
The kit can help when say your car hits the rev limiter at times from slow shifting, but if your car has real tranny problems this is not a fix. It will not hurt and may be the solution if you have certain slipping problems if you have not let go for too long. In any case if you do get a rebuild you can still use the valve body and the tranny will last much longer.
I guess I can put up a complete review with video when I get time, but in the meantime everyone feel free to ask some questions and I'll answer the best I can.
so after dropping the pan and draining the tranny fluid with the drain plug there is still a bunch of fluid in the VB?
yes, when you separate it from the tranny, it will pour from inside the strainer/filter. its about 8oz or so. and even after you remove the vb completely atf will seep steadily from every orifice.
if you loosen all the bolts on the vb slowly you can avoid the big splash that happens when the vb separates from the tranny.
Even after removing the bottom half of the valve body (top half stayed in place in the TH350 transmissions), ATF drained out for a really long time. Plus, I didn't have a lift, just jack stands so my nose was maybe 3-4" away from the bottom of the transmission. Really fun.

Yeah i had the same problem, i made a thread about it probably 2 or 3 yrs ago. Someone replied that they heated the bolt w/ a torch and said thats how they got it out.
Also dont drive around all the time w/ the drop resistor unplugged, it'll wear your trans out quick, its only good to have it like that at WOT.

Not so sure about that. With the slippage between gears eliminated due to shifting at higher line pressure, there should be less heat build-up and wear. Your axles probably won't like it too much though.
Having the Trans Go shift kit installed in the morning. Just want to get rid of the 2-3 flare. I'll let you know how it works out. If it works, I'll be a happy guy.

Im not doing it myself. Taking it to a tranny shop in Newmarket. I will let you know the results and final cost in Canadian $$.
Which shop in Newmarket Timbit? Post your findings on torontomaxima.com if you could. I'm currently experiencing tranny troubles and trying to find a possible solution, maybe this is it.

It worked (sideways!), just saying .jpg files up and download faster.
After looking over the directions (and seeing you have to chafmer some passages), I think if I get the shift kit I'll let someone else do the install. The B&M kit for my Chevelle just involved drilling a couple holes in the seperator plate, changing a spring or two and eliminating 3 of the 4 check balls. The one for our cars is significantly more complicated, but then again, our transmissions are too.
oh really? nice, i'm more anxious for the 2-3 than anything...
also, did you do the rings and such around the gears (on page 8)? The tranny i'll be doing this to is out of the car and i dont know whether i should do that or not.
Update. I had the work done this morning. TDS Transmission. It worked!! The 1-2 shift is crisp, the 2-3 flare is gone and its just super smooth. I watched the whole thing, no way I would ever attempt this. There are quite a few parts. The total cost was $300. Well worth it. Service was great.

i think those were upgraded seals....but i didnt put them in my car. im not paying to have them open the tranny...lol. but what i shoulda did was replace the shift solenoids

Congrats on your successful tranny upgrade. You give hope to all of us 5th genners with transmission issues...
