VSS

Whats the way you can test a speed sensor with a multimeter ?
I got a new cluster and it still dont work, also on the harness behind the cluster there seems to be a fuse in the harness but i dont think its a fuse or if it even has anything to do with the speedo.
the new cluster works but the odo dont move , the speedo dont move, the abs light stays on and the od light blinks, with the origanal cluster it dont do that, there is differences but iam not sure if it has anything to do with it, Speedo worked before i redid the faces, it just stopped working out of the blue afterwords, all wires behind the cluster are in good condition.

VSS wire is pink/blue in the brown harness. It's meter testable, voltage should increase with revs.

Wouldent that be rpms that increase with revs?

Now, did you just plug this straight in or did you mess with it at all?

I have tested a bevy of different clusters to date, all worked fine, so this is new news to me...

And seriously, it should just work when you plug it in. I have changed a few clusters before in other cars and they all would work fine right when ya plug then in (except for that one ford cluster that was for a non 4x4 and mine was a 4x4).

As others said, I think something is wrong with this cluster. Is it def from the same year car? Does the cluster matter if it was from an automatic and yours is a manual or vice versa? I dont think that should matter, but just wondering.

Both. RPM's increase with revs, but when you test the wire, the voltage reading also increases.

I'm with Metal, sounds like an issue.

Cluster is from the same year car as mine but it was fully loaded unlike mine, when i plugged it in Without even opening it, the abs light stayed on, od light stayed on, all the gauges worked but the speedo also on the new one the odo did not count the miles it just stayed there, on the old one it everything works but the speedo, the odo works also, the VSS tests good, the cruise control works, I pulled every single possible fuse in the car, all good, also now it wont talk to the obdII scanners, before it did, unless the guy at autozone was a homo and did not know what he was doing, lean code btw, only other thing i can think of is that fuse looking thing on the wire harness tapped to it behind the cluster, it looks like a fuse but its not, i have no idea what it is.

"i did the test as you stated"

Identical model, year, but diff options. and yes, its a auto cluster, same as mine, the part numbers are different and the arrangment of some components on the circut board are different.
