body parts

My roommate just backed into the Max today. I'm trying to source parts and figure out what all I'd need to get this fixed fast. To me, it looks like it needs a new headlight, foglight, bumper cover, foam support behind cover and POSSIBLY a new hood. It appears to have a slight bend in it, but it may just look that way because of other damage.

Do you have any recommendations on where to source 2001 AE Parts? I'm tryin to help him, but we may have to get insurance to pay this. Thanks for any help.

AE parts are hard to come by and expensive. The front lip doesn't seem to be damaged so you could probably remove it and have it installed on the new bumper. All other parts should be available.

Hoods can be purchased for around $175 shipped, bumper around $150, headlight about the same if you look on fleabay. Paint should be about $250; all in all, it's going to run at least $700 to $1000, PLUS the time you spend for removal/reinstall.

The hood looks to be ok, it appears as though it's only being propped up by the grille. No hood should put you well below $700.

Ii found a headlight assembly on ebay for 110. Is that just a standard bumper with the AE lip attached? If so, I could get any 01 max bumper and have it painted to match? Does the foam backing come with the new bumper? Do you have a link to the hood for 175 and bumper for 150? Also are the AE foglights also special edition? Thanks

All AE body components (with the exception of the kit) are universal for 5th gens; I don't know about the foam, but it's really only cheap-ass packing foam that acts as a pseudo shock absorber against the bumper, DIY job. You're already up to about $500 (see links below), now you're going to need to get it painted, AND remove/install yourself. Hopefully you can sense I'm hinting at something here.

Hood - $280 shipped

Bumper - $130 shipped

Fogs, $68 shipped (just as much for one, will look stupid if only one's replaced)

GL, man.

I would get his insurance to fix it if you want it done right and you would get a rental so youre not out of a car.

If not get a bumper, any 2000 2001 will do, try to put it on and then see what else needs to be replaced after you try to line things up.

Parts bodywork and paint arent cheap.

The hood seems okay. I dont think the $110 headlight on ebay is oem, which means the light output not gonna be as good. Finding used AE parts is gonna be hard and expensive like someone else mentioned. Maybe you should look into getting a pair of regular oem headlights since your lens look a little oxidized. You can find another 00-01 bumpers but you have to drill some holes to install your AE lip. It's held on by 5 bolts and bunch of double sided tape. Going through insurance would different make things go faster and better and neat, but... it's really up to you. And you really dont wanna skim on the paint job for your bumper since it will see a ton of stones, pebbles, and all kinds of crap flying action from driving. Another word, it won't be cheap.

Yeah... were running it through insurance. Got a quote from maaco to do it all including cracked grill molding, and mounting tabs etc. $2350. Im having Allstates body shop, Sterling Autobody do the work. They'll start monday, and I'm gettin a Gran Prix rental on Friday, that will be fun.

Should I specify that they put in an AE headlight, or just let them do that one with a regular light, cause I'm going to buy a passenger side light and put it on myself when it's done, so the headlights will match.

I would specify an AE light and a new AE light for the other side to match.

Damn..... your room mate must have wacked it good! They probably wont give you 2 AE lights. My buddy had something similar happen and they would only replace the light that was damaged but.....They sell this stuff at autozone and it comes in like some shiney bag and its great for restoring head lights. You should find it in the light section or just ask someone. It should help the old light match the new light. I used it on my 99 and my 02 (eyelid removal lots of gunk stuck) and if you do it right it'll make them look like new.

What you can do is request the body shop to order a pair and you can pay for the other one.
