Interior or Engine Bay Location of ABS Sensor

Hi -

Just to start....I have searched the forums for over an hour for this question, and have found some clues as to how to find it from the outside but would prefer to tap it it from the interior of the car. If someone has a link to another thread that has the answer (even though I couldn't find it) it would be much appreciated

I am installing an Pioneer AVIC D3 GPS in my 2001 Maxima and am looking for specific instructions on where the speed sensor is. From what I've read, the ABS sensor is the same as the speed sensor based on this posting...

Other than the information in that posting and another where it explained if I look near the rotor of a wheel I should find it, I have not found any other information.

Can anyone provide me details of where I could find it from the interior of the car (preferred) or engine bay of the car? A pin diagram or wire color would be great!

On your Gen. 5 the primary vehicle speed sensor is in the tranny and it sends it's signal to the gauge cluster and then to the ECM. BUT.......I believe the wire that you're looking for is a purple/red wire that runs directly from the gauge cluster at Pin 13 to the TCM Pin 40 (there is a connector somewhere between the gauge cluster and the TCM where this wire splits to the TCM and to the cruise control unit). This is actually the auxillary (backup) vehicle speed system to the TCM in the event that the primary "revolution counter" speed sensor system fails. It makes sense to use this signal directly from the gauge cluster to the TCM because you do not have to "break into" the primary system to the ECM. Be VERY careful anytime that you are "tinkering" with any connections related to the gauge cluster, the TCM, or the ECM for that matter. To be safe I would disconnect the neg. battery cable.

Is the Pink and Blue wire the one you were referring to?

The Pink/Blue wire is the one going to the ECM, the Purple/Red is going to the TCM. I suspect either will work, as others have apparently used the Pink/Blue with success. I would personally try the Purple/Red first, but whatever has worked already I guess is Murphy proof.
