if your's is a 5.5 gen .then your not supposed to clean them.the drive by wire throttle body is not like the regular throttle bodies.you will actually damage it.ask soonerfan i think he did a thread on why not to do it based on what happened to him when he did it.i believe it's him that did it.

You can try the relearns but you may have broken it. You're not supposed to touch the inside of the 02+ throttlebody.

More than one person has had to replace the throttlebody after cleaning it.

Ok, the TB consists of MANY different parts. What exactly would you think is actually broken? I've cleaned mine twice, and have yet to have a problem.

It seems to me as if people get scared, jump the gun, and right away call the dealer and panic. The dealer then does what they are trained to do, follow the FSM until something works.

In some cases, the ultimate solution was a new ECU & TB, with different variations of solutions scattered here and there.

I still do not think there is a problem with manually cleaning it. Once all reset procedures are done, and there is still a problem, leave it for a day or 2, the car still runs fine with the exception of the funny idle. Redo the procedures a day or 2 after. That is better than going through all the dealer crap & new hardware / software.

The last time I cleaned mine, I had the symptoms, did Aaron's spacers a week later, and after doing them, I reset & attempted all procedures again and the 'problem' as not returned.

I agree with NmexMax. I had a p1121 TB code and decided to clean the TB. The cleaning eliminated the p1121 code. After doing all the relearn procedures I had a p0507 high idle code. The TB relearn fixed the high idle only during the initial startup. Once I turned off the engine and restarted the high idle was back. I took NmexMax's advice and decided to disconnect the battery for a day. Once I reconnected the battery all is back to normal(no codes and normal idle).

I have read many threads/posts about this. Can you post how you exactly did the re-learns? Disconnected the battery for 24 hours > TB re-learn > Idle re-learn> ECU reset?? What order?

I cleaned the TB, Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning, Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning, Idle Air Volume Learning (Throttle Position Learning). Then disconnected the battery for 24 hours.

I did not do the ecu reset.

well I cleaned the throttle body in my 5th gen and I didn't do the relearn procedures I just unplug the battery for a day and then plug it and turn on and the cars runs fine....

I don't think I need to do the relearn procedures or I should????

2002 - 2003 have Electronic Throttle / Drive By Wire, etc (Ethrottle / DBW, etc). Disconnecting it (electronic connector) makes it forget what is open and what is closed, and what it should do @ idle / cold start.


So, there are a couple of procedures that need to be done either manually, or via Consult II in order for it to essentially regain consciousness.
