Roof Rack install (PICS if interested)

So, i have been attaching the kayak to my roof and bending the aluminum panel, once was my fault, another was not, i decided immediately to buy a rack but they were all so expensive.

$300 From Nissan!
$265 from Yakima
$264 from Thule
$82.93 from http://www.nissanparts.cc SOLD!

so like, duh right?

Shipped fine, 1.5 weeks to the door for 30 bucks.

Anyway, installed awesome! Square bars not the round ones. SOLID product!!

Highly recommended!

Nice. I've always had good luck with Thule. I'm in the same boat. I normally carry the kayaks on the SUV, but with gas the way it is, I want to start carrying them on the Max. I get Thule stuff at cost too so maybe thats why I like them so much.

I always thought that roof racks were bad for gas milage? Although i guess if you hvae a 5.7L Hemi or a VQ40, you'll still get better gas mileage even with a roofrack....

so they tell me... i like it there, it looks cool from a distance and different in person. Its strange how nobody notices how many people actually do this. i got a LOT of crap for that, but I STILL love it.... i think centered is boring!

you might have 4 dents where the rack sits..

my car has 4 uniform dents on the roof... which i am 100% is positive from the previous owner.

Damn, I want a Kona again so badly. Sold my old Hahanna (not much, but a BMW of bikes when you're 16-17) a while back. This cheap roof rack might encourage me to get one again.

BTW, StillenMax, not a fan of the grille either but props on the write-up and pictures. I also notice you have the trusty sunroof wind deflector scratches like I do.

Thule has one. Most of the load bars and accessories are universal. All you need is to get a Fit Kit thats specific to your vehicle and you're good.

Bought one used from someone off bimmerforums.com. $200 shipped for a kit that would have costed $450+. I just installed it today and I'll take pictures of it in a couple minutes.

Finally showed up on Thursday and got it installed today. Have better pics, just need to upload them. The rack itself was in horrible condition (scratches & gouges), but at $80, I couldn't really complain too much.

The other pictures don't have my finger in the way

Thanks for the advice and write up. I was having trouble finding a compatible roof rack system for my 2000 Max that didn't cost a fortune. Great find!

Nice rack!
Although I luv the Yakima rack I put on my wife's SUV I'm not so impressed with the Yakima Qtowers and clips I put on my maxima. First of all I don't think Nissan had ever conceived someone would put a roof rack on these cars based on the Maxima's design deficiencies. The roof is very weak especially in the back. And the minimal area where the clips attach to makes me nervous. The Q106 clips I'm using are not a perfect fit and hit the rear doors slightly. Looks like I now need the stretch kit to carry my 18' 700qx QCC kayak. The reason why I bought the rack in the first place.

you werent impressed with the q-towers or the roof design of the maxima? maybe you bought the wrong clips because mine fits perfect and is very sturdy.
Get a white water boat.

Well the towers seem very well thought out however the lack of material on the maxima's roof sill and lack of support built into the roof makes me question. The clips I use are Q106, Max is an 02. I even follow the exact measurement that came with the clips. I only bought the rack as a backup if I wanted to go out solo or leave the car at a destination if I paddle the CT River. We use the yak rack on my wifes truck. Very solid! So I still have yet to use the Qtowers w a load.

I'm not very far from the shore and spend everyweekend there, but white water boats look like a blast.
