Timing Chain help

Anybody have documentation maybe a few pages from the service manual or something that shows exactly how to install and time up the timing chain. I didn't realize how nasty this engine could be.

What year car? This will have quite an affect on the procedure.

What is your problem? And believe me, it's more than 'a few pages'.

It's actually a 04 G35 coupe. I have a maxima and hang out here and thought it was easier to ask here than some g35 site. The problem is rebuilding the engine and broke one of the guides attached to the tensioner and will need to make sure exactly how this timing stuff is going back together when the machine shop is done with the bottom end. Could order the service manual but was hoping it wouldn't come to that.

ou can download an FSM from phatg20.net, it has the diagram of which part goes where, not too mush info on the procedure itself though. I', sure theres a service manual online somewhere too.

You would probably be better off asking in a 350Z site. That's a lot closer than a Maxima even though they're both VQ. Those guys would probably be more familiar with working on motors than most G35 owners.

You can download the shop manuals. I don't remember where but someone here will know.

It actually may be easier since the RWD version is not transverse like ours. That will leave the area in question in a, theoretically, easier access position.

FWD and RWD VQ35 timing chain installations are exactly the same.

It's really rather easy; line up the gold links at the top with the marks on the intake cam VTC sprockets, the double links at the bottom with the mark on the crank timing gear and you should be good.

Or is it doubles at the top and the single at the bottom? I forget which.

Look at the A32 VQ35 swap thread over on nycmaximas or here, they show how to install the chain.

So much easier than a Max, especially once the rad is out of the way.

Short of the '03 Z33s, with that PITA clutch fan.

A few years shy of you, though.

I learned a little and verified the basics of larger MAF there. Got my wheels and injectors there. Sold the tires that were on my Z wheels there as well.
