Steering Column Squeak

I recently developed a short squeak when turning and accererating slightly (basically when driving in my development). I am pretty certain that its in the steering column / wheel, and sounds like a rocking chair squeak. I have read a few posts on something like this, but they was not much help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you hear it in the steering wheel area? or you just think thats the problem.

if it happens when turning and accelerating it will most likely be a CV joint or motor mount

my right front is squeeking bad when i turn also, it sounds like its comming from the middle of the car inside, but i swear it has to be the RF strut mount. it was a bish when i put my eibachs on.

I had a squuk when turning on my 99, it was my RF strut mount. Replaced it and now everything is quit. Also, check the plastic trim around the steering column to make sure it has no contact with the steering wheel itself.

same squeak problem

Hi,
I am also facing the same problem. But the intensity is less. When I first pull out the car from the parking I can hear the squeak from my left wheel which doesn't come when I am driving straight. Also a little sound like wheel rubbing against the mud flap intermittantly. Can anyone provide your comments and also does anyone know a good maxima mechaninc in an near Malden, MA.

Maxima 2001 GLE

Thank you very much for your help.

Thanks for the ideas....sonnerfan...I just had the axles replaced and the noise was before and after. Any ideas of the best way to approach a diagnosis? Start with the steering column in side and lubricate? If it is a strut, would i hear it with the windows open? The noise is only heard from the inside of the car. Thanks again for the help.
