vq35hr clutch with fidanza flywheel

2 days ago nismo_star installed my clutch and flywheel. Its a HR clutch with fidanza flywheel. So not only regular 350z clutch fits the HR clutch fits also. The clutch is very very light compare to stock and engages 10x smoother than stock. I will post pictures and part numbers tonight for everyone else to use it a reference when their ordering. If nismo_star wants to chime in about the install please do. Over all love the clutch setup.

Also if you guys wanna order the clutch pm me i'll give you guys 15 percent off list price.

That's the clutch we've been talking about here for a while. The one from the newer 350Z with the HR motor. The older non HR 350Z shared the same clutch as the Maxima.

I've had mine in for close to a year now and it's great. Way better feel than stock and stronger too.

This clutch is just like the Exedy stage 1 which goes for $500 plus. Dave B has been getting them for us for around $250.

well thats the thing, the ones you guys are talking about are different part number than mine. I gave Daveb a call regarding the clutch and he said my part number is different from the ones he was selling to you guys on the org.

They are diferent part #'s due to production dates 30205-jk40a is from 11/06 to 10/07 and is around $250 from DaveB, the other is 30205-jk40c which is from 10/07 to now, and is much more expensive, $383.00. Also they supercede to each other, so all you can get now is the -jk40c # which sucks because it is the more expensive one.

when you say it engages smoother, do you mean, like it's easier to achieve smooth shifts? i''ve been driving a manual for a little over 2 months, and i'm still working on smoothing out my upshifts.. just wondering if that 350Z HR clutch will make it any easier for smooth shifts

Stop dumping your clutch in every gear. Let it out slower, and it'll be smoother. Basic clutch mechanics.

so with this clutch, how would u say the overall engagement is like? stiffer pedal? less pedal play? so to confirm, the vq35hr clutch/flywheel will bolt up to the vq35de with no problems? i ask this because i think i want to do this to my 6th gen now! bcak in the high school days, came from a boosted civic with the act xtreme clutch kit so drving the maxima took alittle gettin used to.

im not sure about vq35hr flywheel, cause i have the fidanza flywheel for maxima. But the HR clutch kit fits on the 5.5 gen. Part number for the clutch kit i got was
30205-JK40A, which include the pressure plate and the disc. You would have to purchase the throw out bearing separte for the 5.5 gen.

i believe we have the same motor, vq35de [ i have a 6th gen] so it should be a direct bolt on? how are your overall impressions over the stock one?

i thought that put more wear on the clutch the longer you leave it in while the car is in gear... from my understanding after you shift, the object is to give the car some gas and get the clutch out as soon as possible in a smooth motion to prevent the clutch from slipping and wearing more than it needs to.. correct me if i'm wrong though, as i very well could be be

Install was straight forward, but Q's car having 135K on the clock, hard time separating and being gentle with bolts due to rust. Even when reinstalling very difficult.

There was a noise which Clark had talked about in previous threads about this clutch install. The noise did go away after a few seconds, and as brutal as it may sound when you first hear it, drive it nice and easy with clutch pedal fully depressed during shift.
Essentially t/o bearing needs to center properly on p/p

Finished off Q's tranny with Redline MT 90.

Pedal pressure is very very light, and does require some getting used to. This clutch seemed to self adjust, from the time I finished Q's car to the next day, it felt as if the clutch grabbed from the low-mid to middle, than just past middle the day before.
The engagement is smooth, slight chatter (new clutch?) once popped you know it has higher grip than stock.

Everything on the clutch/ flywheel was torqued by hand/ torque wrench.
Q enjoy

If it feels much lighter than stock, what makes the grip higher than stock? Different friction compound? Please forgive my ignorance...

Lighter pedal effort != less clamping force.

Higher clamping force would be my bet. According to the nissan FAST system the HR PP produces 1050 kgf.

Not necessarily. It's the pressure plate teeth that "Hold" the pressure plate clutch and flywheel turning together as a unit. It holds all 3 together by the use of centrifugal force while rotating. The higher the pressure WHILE ENGAGED the less it slips. (Beneficial)
For example if you have a seized linkage and pedal travels very hard it does not mean that your pressure plate has more force ENGAGED than one that travels freely.
If it says spec that the HR has more holding weight pressure than it's the better one to buy.

minimal when i first drove the car, I put on about 30 mi before returning the car to qnpark.

definitely an improvement in grip vs stock by a long shot.

The pedal feeling light is something I was aware of from previous threads. One drive and made me a believer. The pressure plate self adjusts, even when I moved the pedal adjustment to all the way up, made a very minimal difference. I brought it back to the middle and a bit lower.

feels great, waiting for Q to drive the car some more and give me a progress report.

The clutch is very light and grabs kinda high. Clutch takes some time to get used to. compare to my stock clutch, grabs lot better. With fidanza setup there is no chatter to speak of, very very smooth. I'll recommend this clutch setup to anyone who needs to change their clutch.

so some update.... So today I finally decided to get on the car. When i shifted from 1st to 2nd the clutch just let go. Def the clutch not spinning the tires. Mph is not going up but im hitting the rev limiter. When im just driving the car normal its fine. I adjusted the clutch from the pedal but same thing happened. Im clueless right now. I really dont feel like spending the close to a grand on a new clutch and a install. Any way to adjust the clutch or only way is the screw by the pedal??

It's toast, time for a new clutch. There's no adjustment to overcome that.

Wait a minute, I forgot we were talking about a fresh install and not a worn out clutch. There maybe a way to adjust it with the pedal adjust. If you have the action up high in the pedal travel it may not be letting the clutch fully engage. Try adjusting it so the pedal has to travel lower to disengage the clutch.

Also, make sure you have some play in the pedal when your foot's off it. It should move easily for about an inch before it feels like it's doing anything. Even if there is some play in the pedal you may still need to drop it some with the adjustment.

This new setup requires less pedal pressure so having to adjust the pedal down makes sence.

A fresh install with new parts shouldn't slip. It doesn't matter if it's in a 350Z or a Maxima.

3-4 mm free play is enough. With an inch of play you risk not to disengage fully.

There are no cables in max. To adjust the upper end you need to work with a cruise control switch, which acts as the the upper end pedal stopper. Disconnect the harness, loose the holding nut; then unscrew entire unit (not completely, just till it meets the correct position), tighten all together back and you're done.

Exactly, that's most likely the cause of your slipping clutch. You're going around with the clutch pedal part way pushed in all the time.

That's understandable. When it's engaged and everything's spinning the same speed it won't slip unless it's really bad. Try the adjustment and get a little play at the top of the pedal.

well i adjusted some more and its still slipping, but not as much as before. I cant adjust too much more now. Im done with this setup. Im just gonna ride this clutch out and probably swap the setup out with clutch masters setup. Maybe its just me but I regret doing this clutch.
