Sunroof doesn't not work period!

So i searched the forums but not mentioning of a sunroof that stopped working. It was working fine the day before and thank god it stopped working in the closed positions. I have the relay in my hand right now and taking irish's suggestion but i have a feeling it won't work. I'm guessin its a bad motor yet it didn't have symptoms of failure, like i said it was working jus fine the other day. I checked all fuses and relays all seem fine both in the cabin and under the hood...I'm hessitant to take it to the dealer cuz although i'm under warrenty its an outside company that covers the warrenty and they charge me a ridiculous diagnosis fee for $135 and i'm guessing the fix is less than that, any suggestions much appreciated

Hold down the tilt button and it should start working again.

Have you searched?

I checked possible fuses, i'm not exactly sure if there is one specific one for just the sunroof
but i checked the ones under the hood, and the ones in the cabin
another thing that is weird is in the center console the lights above the shifter
are flickering, i redid that set with leds and it was working fine for a really long time
it seems that problem and the sunroof occured at the sametime so i'm thinking they could be linked
i'm going to try and rewire the leds and see the results

Hey,

I'm having the exact same problem too. It worked a week ago and then suddently stopped working. No signs of motor malfunction either. The tilt function still works but the function to fully open does not. I haven't checked fuses yet. Will do soon.

I've had this problem before. I noticed it was sometimes caused by turning off the power with the switch not fully in the closed position.

It was fixed when I made sure the sunroof was fully closed using the tilt button, then I turned off the power and put the switch back all the way in the "closed" slot, then re-started the car. I also played with the switch, going from closed to fully opened a few times, so I can't exclude that.

Good luck!

gbwillner: Thx, I fiddled with the switch many times already. Unfortunately, that doesn't work. I'm wondering if the tilt motor is the same motor to open the sunroof fully. If so, that's good news. Probably a 'dirty' switch. I'll report back if I get this problem resolved. I can live without a sunroof if it costs a few hundred to fix. At least it 'died' fully closed.

Mine has done that before. I always have been able to fix it by unplugging the battery and then trying again. Dunno why? Maybe it resets somethin...try it

I've had the same sort of issue lately. Mine was also closed and moving the slide wouldn't do anything. The tilt worked so I held it for a minute and let it open, then helpd it for a while after it had closed. I made sure the slide was int he full closed position and shut the car off, started back up and it has worked ever since.

hold down the tilt down button (forward most half of the tilt button) for like 10 seconds with the car on and the sunroof slider in the fully closed position. also, check the FSM for the official method and other possible fixes/causes. after you do the reset it should work

stupid sunroof

Mine has not worked in months but was closed so no prob. untill hurricane Issaac blew in and then the sunroof opened by itself durring the night. Wouldn't close so I checked all the fuses, cont tested all wiring, switches, circute breaker and relay. Tried the battery thing and for all my effort only mannaged to make the door windows stop working. Though the relays for the door windows and for the sunroof are opperational the systems won't opperate. I made jumpers to bypass the relays and still was only able to resume the door window opperation, works with/without vehicle on. They both go through a smart access system computer that controles alot of the automatic dooda's in the car. I had to remove the sunroof motor and close it manualy, took some work to get it set right but so far no leaking. Only thing I havn't done is test that computer but don't want to chance messing it up. I just left the sunroof motor unpluged for now so it doesn't ghost itself open again.

Your post is quite confusing but perhaps you can try swapping SECU's with another maxima to rule that out.
